A Dream Deferred

Under the Democrats, or at least under Clinton, we had peace and prosperity.

As for the nation at that time...  We had the best economy in thirty some years, net job growth,
reductions in corporate and private welfare, reinvestment in schools, PEACE, and the trust,
appreciation, and confidence of our allies.  We also embarked upon innovative and vigorous
diplomatic, military, and intelligence initiatives to neutralize dangers created by dangerous corporate collusion and a scourge of radicals spawned by CIA support for Saddam, Osama,
the Taliban, and other totalitarian regimes and movements.  Clinton, conservative though
he was, challenged the powers that be and showed us how our nation could thrive.

Unfortunately, George Bush stopped this progress, surrendered to transnational corporations,
and reversed course.  After this betrayal, he undermined civil liberties at home, removed our
military base from the home country of those who attacked us, and permitted  a corporate
invasion of a non-aggressive nation which has become a "breeding ground for terror."  His
retreat to a brutal and amoral corporate colonialism has brought our nation ruin, war, deficits,
destruction, and dishonor.  This cannot stand.

We, liberals and conservatives alike, were sold out.  Our nation has been forced into bankruptcy
and foreign ownership.  If we allow these traitors to continue these tactics and treasons:
outsourcing jobs, selling off ports, spying on citizens, and shredding our civic safety net...
this nation may not recover.

Frankly, I preferred peace, prosperity, diplomatic expertise, fiscal responsibility, and reason.
We need not see the death of the American Dream.  We can continue to imagine that people  have reason to believe their children will do better than they did.  If we can wrest control of
this nation from these deceivers, we can restore the vision, foresight, intelligence, and
mature leadership which is required if we hope to prevent the deferral of our dreams.

As for the talking points, false comparisons, changed subjects, and other Orwellian tactics of misconstruction and mismanagement...   These tired and cynical tactics can no longer be allowed to change the subject.  We must address the critical issues of the day.  These ruthless corporate raiders cannot continue to divide the nation and distract us from critical tasks.

Instead of a surrender to amoral thuggery, this nation can be sustained by our traditional system of checks and balances, constitutional mandates, and respect for and adherence to the rule of law.  We can install a more responsive congress in this autumn of accountability, the responsible members of our courts can stand firm in protecting our constitution, and our electorate can make certain that we are no longer disenfranchised.  Those who need be brought to justice can be removed and or prosecuted as our duties, priorities, and aspirations may demand or require.

The last several years have been an important lesson for our young nation.  We cannot take our elections or liberty for granted.  If we remain vigilant, our dreams will not be denied,  nor will they be deferred.  They will become the substance and foundations for freedom, our legacy.

best regards and solidarity,
Timothy Flanagan
