Keep making those calls. Call your senators now. Tell them that reform must make healthcare affordable for working families, provide a public health insurance option, include real employer responsibility, not tax health plans and establish safe-staffing standards in healthcare facilities.

I just called my senator and told him or her to support affordable healthcare
for working families. Your senator needs to hear from YOU!

Once again, Love Makes A Family, Inc. has asked us to reach out to the
AFSC community to find volunteers for this year's Oregon State Fair

(August 28 – September 7). Bonnie Tinker, the founder of Love Makes A
Family, was a vital member of the Portland area Quaker community, and
was the prime mover behind the launch of AFSC's GLBT work. Bonnie's
sudden death last month has left the community dazed and overwhelmed,
but Love Makes a Family volunteers are determined to honor her life
and work by making this event happen. Her goal each year was to
sponsor booths at the fair where we could engage in meaningful
conversations with Oregonians about our values and vision for society.
Please consider giving a few hours of your time to help our partner
organization in this difficult time. More details about volunteering
are below, you can sign up to volunteer by contacting:

In just one week, several hundred Americans in nearly 40 cities and towns across more than 25 states have signed up for and started organizing Palestine Freedom Walks for October 10, 2009!  A full list of cities/towns and states is below.  Click here to bring a Palestine Freedom Walk to your city or town!

The Palestine Freedom Walks have two major goals:

First, to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine among Americans who will take part in, sponsor and observe the walks, including your family members, friends, neighbors and community members.

And second, to raise funds for a powerful AAPER online advertising campaign calling for freedom for the Palestinian people.

Clicking here will add your name to the petition. Sign the Petition."When it comes to health care reform, the public option is not optional. You campaigned on change and on a health care plan that included a public option. But aside from single payer, a health care bill without a robust public option is just more of the same. If you are sincere about supporting the public plan, tell Congress and the voters that you will not sign a bill without a robust public option similar to Medicare."

Across the country, a small group of radical right-wingers are engaging in an all-out effort to derail modest proposals for   health care reform. There is little doubt that this increased level of coordinated activity is because this nation is  closer to reform than we have been in more than 50 years.  Now is no time to surrender to the naysayers.

While we are getting closer to reform, we can’t let up. We need to keep fighting to ensure that our voices are heard over the unruly mobs. More than 75 percent of America’s workers support real health care reform, and we cannot allow a small band of angry zealots to stand in the way.

Currently, fringe right-wing opponents of health care reform are focused on disrupting congressional town hall meetings. To combat these disruptions, we need for concerned Americans to call their U.S. representative’s district office today.  Remind our leaders to support health care reform this year.

Call your representative toll free: 1-877-702-0976
And while you have them on the phone,
remind them that Single Payer is the only long-term solution.
