Reminder of non-verbal behavior exercise during Individuality module. How can we adapt our non-verbal behavior with our students to be welcoming and encouraging when we are really feeling tiered, stressed out and frustrated by their lack of understanding?
(For those starting now...)
• What is Communication? (exchange of info, listening, speaking)
• Why is it important?
• What do we need to consider when communicating with another person?
• How do we know when we have done a good job?
Discuss what happens during communication: Sending of message; filled with non
verbal, subjective messages. Has to go through filters of the receiver and be
interpreted. Read “Communications” page and discuss.
II. How to be a better
communicator.
Small groups fill in the blanks of communication - 10 steps.
during discussion.
Whole group - debrief.
Under “Understanding” section, put words on board and have them tell me what
those words mean to them, to illustrate variety
of understanding of words and content.
III. Activity;
In one minute try to convince your partner of something you feel strongly about.
Your partner should not give any feedback either positive or negative.
Do it again with your partner being able to respond. How did it feel different?
Switch.
Using the above exercise, think about how you did and fill out the following
survey: PG. 34,
