Meet the Band

Nancy on bass and Steve on lead and Kanu on Rythym

Tennessee Jed has an extremely musical and melodic soft, electric sound that draws liberally from the blues, ballads, rock standards and even a dash of bluegrass, western, traditional folk and funk. They are an extremely experienced jam band in the style of the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers that features substantial improvisational and free form music understood and enjoyed by listeners from 8 to 80.

The band plays seated and from sheet music, but then generates a groove with most tunes that will cause your toes to tap. The lead guitarist and male vocalist is a local physician, and claims to have been a guitar addict for over thirty years now, and not for nothing. His wife is the bass player and lead female vocalist. Playing rhythm guitar is Khanu, another regional physician. Tennessee Jed uses an electronic drummer, but has recently added Lance on percussion to fill in the reggae, calypso, and African sounds.

This band is tight, delightful, and frequently discusses the meanings and histories of their songs. They are accessible people who love to interact with the audience. Once you've seen them, you'll want to see them again and again, and you can. They have played the Mercantile, CoffeEspress and Andrea's Restaurant, approximately every six weeks for the last three years, and some of their fans are regulars.
