Stevie Ray Vaughan Lover's Page

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble came raging onto the scene in 1982-83. Stevie, Chris, and Tommy changed the way blues were played, heard, and felt. Although the band was together a time before 1982-83, they didnt start to get major airplay until after their debut album, Texas Flood.

Texas Flood received rave reviews and since it was recorded in the midst of the 80s, it gave techno bands like Devo, and A Flock of Seagulls a run for their money. Soon after the release of this album, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were well on their way to the top, where they would stay.

After relentless touring schedules and interviews, this band's hard work finally paid off. More radio airplay and MTV videos that stayed in heavy rotations, boosted Stevie and the band even furthur. Along with the success of their following albums and a stint at Carnegie Hall, the band faced many rough and stressful times.

Through all this turmoil, Stevie and Tommy's drug/alcohol addictions grew to an all time high. It wouldnt be long before they both would end up in treatment and out with new life and inspiration.

After all the bumps and dips that the band had cleared, there was yet another one on it is way; a pot hole. On August 27, 1990, in the wee hours of the morning, Stevie had boarded a helicopter, after a scorching show at Alpine Valley. He opted for the helicopter thinking that it would get him to Chicago a bit quicker than a limo. Little did he know that Chicago was not where he was headed. The news that this guitar legend had pasted away shocked Chris and Tommy, as well as Stevie's brother Jimmie, their mother, Martha, and Stevie's then-girlfriend, Janna Lapidus. Not only did family mourn this great and shocking loss, but fans like myself cried for the silenced bluesman.

Always remember though, Stevie is still there, somewhere. Looking down on us all, smiling. And when a storm cloud emerges in the horizon, know that that is Stevie wailing away and causing a fantastic show in the sky.
