Orland Park Magic Tournament

10-year-old Division Rules

 

BEHAVIOR / CONDUCT - Players, managers, coaches and fans will demonstrate GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP at all times.  Managers are responsible for the conduct of their team including the fans.  No profanity or abusive behavior (verbal or physical) will be tolerated.  Use of profanity or other verbal abuse: first offense – warning, second offense – ejection from the tournament.  Fighting or physical abuse will result in immediate ejection from the tournament.  No alcoholic beverages permitted.

 

ROSTER Teams may have a maximum of 13 and minimum of 11 players on their roster.  All players must bat.  Teams that fail to field 9 rostered players after 10 minutes into the scheduled start of a game will forfeit the game.  Any players arriving late will be inserted at the end of the batting lineup.  A rostered player may not turn 10 before 5/1/06.

No players may be added after the first game.

 

CHECK INAll managers must check in with tournament director or designee prior to the start of their first game.  YOU MUST PROVIDE A VALID CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE, TEAM ROSTER (including players full names, uniform number and DOB) AND BIRTH CERTIFICATES TO BE VERIFIED AT THIS TIME.  Each manager will hold their copies of birth certificates for the duration of the tournament and will be able to provide them as proof of age at any time for any player in question.

 

GAMESA coin flip will determine home team except for the playoff round and the championship/consolation round where the lower number seed will be the home team.  Dugouts are not assigned…please take which ever is vacant.  Ground rules will be discussed with each manager prior to the start of the games. 

-        7 seven inning games and no new inning may start after 1:45 min from the time of the first pitch.  No time limit for playoff games on Sunday.

-        Leadoffs & stealing are allowed & dropped third strike and infield fly rules apply

-        A one balk warning shall be given to each pitcher.

-        An intentional walk may take place by informing the umpire.

-        Must slide rule in effect at second third and home when a close play (by the umpire’s judgment) is involved.

-        Any player who maliciously (umpire’s judgement) runs into a player will be declared out and ejected from the game.

-        Mercy rule - 15 runs after 4 complete innings (31/2 if home team ahead) and 10 runs after 5 complete innings (41/2 if home team ahead).

-        Winning team Must call  GAME SCORE AND PITCHING RECORD INTO Matt Popovich 708 – 899-8623 (include name and uniform number of pitchers and number of innings pitched for both teams) within 1 hour of game completion.

 

PITCHING Maximum 3 innings per game, 6 innings per day and 8 total innings for the tournament.  Any pitcher pitching more than 6 innings in one day may NOT pitch the next day.  One pitch constitutes an inning.  Once a pitcher has been removed from the pitching position he may not re-enter the game as a pitcher. Pitching / game log must be completed by each team and held until collected by a Magic representative.

 

 

OTHER RULES

-        A forfeit game will be scored 6-0.

-        No metal spikes allowed.  Maximum bat diameter is 2 3/4 inches.

-        Batting helmets must be worn by players while on deck, at bat and on base.

-        A courtesy runner may be used at any time for the batting teams current pitcher or catcher (mandatory for catcher if 2 outs).  The courtesy runner will be the player that made the most recent out.

-        A team may continue a game with one less player (than the required 9) if a player has to leave the game for any reason other than ejection.  An out shall be assessed upon each subsequent turn at bat.  If the player leaving the game is a runner he shall be declared out. 

-        Playing rules not specifically covered shall follow Official Major League Baseball Rules as published by the Sporting News.

-        Refund policy once the tournament begins is as follows:  If games cannot be played due to weather, refunds will be given according to number of games played.  Zero games played – full refund, 1-2 games played - half refund, 3 or more games played – no refund.  The tournament director may modify the number or length or location of games due to weather or field conditions.

 

WEATHER - In the event of bad weather please call 773-243-8005,  which is the 10 year old Magic hotline number. If in doubt show up.  If a game is stopped due to rain or lightning due is considered a suspended game and will resume at the point it was halted at a date and time determined by the tournament director

 

FIELD DIMENSIONS Bases: 65 feet, pitching 46 feet.

 

PROTESTS Managers only will be allowed to discuss (in a professional and dignified manor) rules with an umpire and or tournament director / designee.  NO PROTEST will be allowed on an umpire’s judgment call. 

No protest will be considered after two or more innings or the game has concluded.  The tournament director/designee shall immediately consider the protest, render a decision and the game will resume without appeal.

14-year-old Division Rules

ROSTER Teams may have a maximum of 13 and minimum of 10 players on their roster. 

No player(s) may be added to the roster after the start of the tournament.

 

CHECK INThe tournament director or designee will visit each field prior to the start of your first game.  YOU MUST PROVIDE A VALID CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE, TEAM ROSTER (including players full names, uniform number and DOB) AND BIRTH CERTIFICATES.  Each manager will hold their copies of birth certificates for the duration of the tournament and will be able to provide them as proof of age at any time for any player in question.

-        A courtesy runner may be used for the batting teams pitcher anytime & must be used for the catcher after 2 outs.  The courtesy runner is the most recent out.

-        Must slide rule in effect at second, third and home when a close play (by the umpire’s judgment) is involved.  Any player who maliciously (umpire’s judgment) runs into a player will be declared out and ejected from the game.

-        Mercy rule - 12 runs after 4 complete innings (3 1/2 if home team ahead) and 10 runs after 5 complete innings (4 1/2 if home team ahead).

-        Tie game – If a game is tied after 7 innings or the time limit has expired it will be played out as follows:  The last out from the previous inning will begin at second base with 0 outs.  Each batter will begin with a 1-ball & 1-strike count.  The game is played to conclusion.

PITCHING 12 innings maximum per pitcher for all games up to & including the championship game.  The winning team MUST call in pitchers used & # of innings pitched for both teams when they call in game scores.  See “WINNING TEAM” under “OTHER RULES” below.

 

OTHER RULES

-        BASEBALLS – We ask that each ream provide 2 new baseballs for each game.

-        A team must start a game with at least 9 players and may finish a game with no less than 8 players (due to injury, ejection or any other reason).  When playing with 9 players & the player leaving the game is a runner he shall be declared out & an out shall be assessed each time the missing player comes to bat.  Finishing with less than 8 players is a forfeit.

-        A forfeit game will be scored 8-0.

-        Metal spikes are allowed.  Maximum bat diameter is 2 3/4 inches.

-        Batting helmets must be worn by players while on deck, at bat and on base.  It is mandatory that all players wear a protective cup. 

-        Playing rules not specifically covered shall follow Official Major League Baseball Rules.

-        WINNING TEAM - PLEASE CALL GAME SCORES & PITCHING RECORDS FOR BOTH TEAMS TO MIKE CRAIG – 1/708/878-1758 within 1 hour of game completion.

BAD WEATHER – In the event of bad weather contact Mike Craig (708/878-1758) or

Ray Lipke (708/212-2333) well in advance of your game time…when in doubt...show up!  If a game is stopped prior to completion because of rain or lightning it is considered a suspended game and will be resumed at the point it was halted at a date/time determined by tournament officials.  The tournament officials may modify the number, length or location of games due to weather or field conditions.   Refund policy once the tournament begins is as follows:  If games cannot be played due to weather, refunds will be given according to number of games played.  Zero games played – full refund (less $50.00 scheduling fee), 1-2 games played - half refund (less $50.00 scheduling fee) 3 or more games played – no refund.

 

TIEBREAKER TO ADVANCE and for SEEDING into the PLAYOFF ROUND

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the playoff round according to the following criteria with the # 1 seed from each pool playing the # 2 seed from the opposite pool.  The winners will advance to the Championship game.
