Orland Park Magic Tournament

12-year-old Division Rules

 

BEHAVIOR / CONDUCT - Players, managers, coaches and fans will demonstrate GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP at all times.  Managers are responsible for the conduct of their team including the fans.  No profanity or abusive behavior (verbal or physical) will be tolerated.  Use of profanity or other verbal abuse: first offense – warning, second offense – ejection from the tournament.  Fighting or physical abuse will result in immediate ejection from the tournament.  No alcoholic beverages permitted.

 

ROSTER  Rosters must be submitted prior to you r first game. Teams may have a maximum of 13 and minimum of 10 players on their roster.  Teams that fail to field 9 rostered players after 10 minutes into the scheduled start of a game will forfeit the game.    A rostered player may not turn 15 before 5/1/ of this year. No players may be added after the first game.

 

EXTRA PLAYERS  – All ages will use a continuous batting order. A team that has 12 or more players they must bat all 12. Teams that fail to have at least 11 players will be accessed an out for that 11 player.  If a team has less then 13 players the opposing team has the right to match that number of players.

Any players arriving late will be inserted at the end of the batting lineup and the opposing team has to match that number.

Example  1 Team A has 12 players team B 11 Team A match 11 players until Team B 12th  player shows up. Both players are inserted at the end of the lineup. Both teams now have 12 players.

Example 2 Team A has 10 players, Team B has 12 players. Team A gets an out for the 11th batter and team B can if they chose to bats only 11 players. 

 

 

 

CHECK INAll managers must check in with tournament director or designee prior to the start of their first game.  YOU MUST PROVIDE A VALID CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE, TEAM ROSTER (including players full names, uniform number and DOB).  Each manager will hold their copies of birth certificates for the duration of the tournament and will be able to provide them as proof of age at any time for any player in question.

 

GAMESA coin flip will determine home team except for the playoff round and the championship/consolation round where the lower number seed will be the home team.  Dugouts are not assigned…please take which ever is vacant.  Ground rules will be discussed with each manager prior to the start of the games. 

-        7 seven inning games and no new inning may start after 1:50 min from the time of the first pitch.  No time limit for playoff games on Sunday.

-        Leadoffs & stealing are allowed & dropped third strike and infield fly rules apply

-        No balk warnings will be given.

-        An intentional walk may take place by informing the umpire.

-        Must slide rule in effect at second third and home when a close play (by the umpire’s judgment) is involved.

-        Any player who maliciously (umpire’s judgement) runs into a player will be declared out and ejected from the game.

-        Mercy rule - 10 runs after 4 complete innings (31/2 if home team ahead) and 8 runs after 5 complete innings (41/2 if home team ahead).

-        Winning team Must call  708 254 4203 with GAME SCORE  within 1 hour of game completion.

 

 

 

 

PITCHING – Maximum 5 innings per game, 7 innings per day and 14 total innings for the tournament.  Any pitcher pitching  7 innings in one day may NOT pitch the next day.  Must rest 24 hours from the last inning pitched. One pitch constitutes an inning.  Once a pitcher has been removed from the pitching position he may not re-enter the game as a pitcher. Umpires will complete Pitching / game log and turn it in to the official tent at the end of every game. Umpires will bring two new game balls to each game.

EACH team must be ready to supply 1 game ball if needed.

 

OTHER RULES

-        A forfeit game will be scored 6-0.

-        Metal spikes are not allowed.  Maximum bat diameter is 2 3/4 inches.

-        Batting helmets must be worn by players while on deck, at bat and on base.

-        A courtesy runner may be used at any time for the batting teams current pitcher or catcher (mandatory for catcher if 2 outs).  The courtesy runner will be the player that made the most recent batted out.

-        A team may continue a game with one less player (than the required 9) if a player has to leave the game for any reason other than ejection.  An out shall be assessed upon each subsequent turn at bat.  If the player leaving the game is a runner he shall be declared out. 

-        Playing rules not specifically covered shall follow Official Major League Baseball Rules as published by the Sporting News.

-        Refund policy once the tournament begins is as follows:  If games cannot be played due to weather, refunds will be given according to number of games played.  Zero games played – full refund, 1-2 games played - half refund, 3 or more games played – no refund.  The tournament director may modify the number or length or location of games due to weather or field conditions.

 

WEATHER - In the event of bad weather please call 773-243-8004  which is the 12 year old Magic hotline number. If in doubt show up.  If a game is stopped due to rain or lightning due is considered a suspended game and will resume at the point it was halted at a date and time determined by the tournament director

 

FIELD DIMENSIONS Bases: 70 feet, pitching 50 feet.

 

PROTESTS Managers only will be allowed to discuss (in a professional and dignified manor) rules with an umpire and or tournament director / designee.  NO PROTEST will be allowed on an umpire’s judgment call. 

No protest will be considered after two or more innings or the game has concluded.  The tournament director/designee shall immediately consider the protest, render a decision and the game will resume without appeal.

 

With a time limit in place if there is a tie after time has expired the following will take place.

 

1.    Tie-Breaker - if a game is tied after all innings have been completed or that time has run out, the following tie-breaker rule will go into effect. Each team puts the batter who is scheduled to bat last in that respective half of the inning on second base. The batter starts with a one and one count and plays out a full inning. This happens until the tie is broken and the game is complete.

  4. Run differential (maximum 10 per game)
  5. Coin toss
