My Getaway
One of the nicest places that I like to go is to Fairhaven. It
is what the the family call "The Beach House", & it has been in my husbands family for a long time. It is around 2 hours drive from where we live, but unfortunately we don't get there as often as I would like to.
The house is set on a hill, it over looks the Southern Ocean, & from the windows & balconies of the house we can see the ships on the horizon carrying their cargo to wherever they will end up through out the world.

Fairhaven is a small community of people who value their privacy & hope that the rest of the world doesn't find out what a beautiful place it is.
The house is nestled in amongst bush & trees, which are full of all types of birds & wildlife. Every morning birds come onto the balcony rails to see if there is any meat or bread left out for them. They are so tame you can almost touch them.

The Rabbits run free, which is a nuisance, as they create a lot of damage, with their burrows & digging.
Just down the road around 5 minutes drive is a beautiful golf course, the golfers only have one problem outside their scores & that's to miss hitting the Kangaroos that run wild on the course, it can be quite funny watching them hop around out of the way of the balls.
In the Summer there is always the risk of bush fires burning everything down. In 1983 the fires came through & destroyed most of the houses in the area. It is amazing how quickly the regeneration of growth happened, & with all the houses rebuilt, you wouldn't know there had ever been a fire there, but it is always something that you are aware of, & each Summer when you hear the fires are out of control, you always hope it wont happen again to us.
Down the bottom of the hill, around 4 minutes walk is the surf beach, which is very dangerous & always patrolled by the life savers, so you never swim outside the flags.
