My grandparents on the Morin side
farming their land in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada.
I have
prominent Canadian Westerners in my family heritage. I am the great-great-grand
nephew of Gabriel
Dumont, the military general in Louis Riel's campaign to create the
Province of Manitoba. Also, my great-great grandfather was Antoine
Joseph Morin, who was the captain of the buffalo hunters that fed the British
explorer Captain John
Palliser and his men, and to guide them up to the Kootenay mountains
in what is now the provinces of British Columbia (B.C.) and Alberta.
My great grandfather was Joseph Antoine Morin who was the interpreter for
Chief One Arrow at the Louis Riel trial 1885. In 1876 Joseph interpreted
for Major Walsh where Chief Sitting Bull camped near Woodmountain, Saskatchewan
after the fight at Little Big Horn. My Grandfather Francois Morin
(pictured above) was a Rodeo Rider until he became blind in his early thirties.
My father Charles Morin was a warrior in World War II, of the
Sea Forth Highlanders. As for myself, I am a Social Policy Research Consultant,
having done 15 years of research into Aboringinal treaties, land
claims (Metis and First Nation) plus a part time Actor. Feel free to browse
my links they also carry important information.
In my geneology
research I found my Royal Blood of Scotland: I am a descendant of
the 3rd Laird of Culloden, the 5th Laird of Culloden, and also the 2nd
Earl of Seaforth, 1st of Kildun, 1st Laird of Gruinard, 2nd Laird of Gruinard
and Laird of the Prairie - pretty neat, eh? I have tracked back to
the late 1400's, but no one has given me a castle yet maybe I have
to go over there and claim it as a descendent of these Lairds and Earls.
(I'm half-serious about the castle!)
