Beta Chapter History

Beta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was founded by an ambitious group of young college women in 1921. These women saw Zeta as a great opportunity to make a positive impact on their community. At this time of political and racial tumult in Atlanta, Georgia, the founders of Beta Chapter saw to effect the evolution of change and progress the struggle towards victory by the light of ZETA.

Beta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated holds the distinction of being the first Pan Hellenic organization south of the Mason Dixon line. As the oldest organization at Morris Brown College and in the south, the plot of Zeta Phi Beta sits in closest proximity to the national historical landmark of Fountain Hall (the oldest building at Morris Brown College). Beta Chapter also shares this plot with our constitutionally bound brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated (Legendary Zeta Chapter).

Since its' inception in 1921, Beta Chapter has yielded an array of brilliant African college women who have grown to become luminous citizens of the world. Amongst our most distinguished sorors are Alice Dugged Carey, Morris Brown College's second president, Mayme and Julia Fountain, daughters of past president for whom Fountain Hall is named, and countless other phenomenal  women. Beta Chapter prides itself on promoting an idea of inclusion and diversity in all areas. Our members have graduated with degrees in every field from Medicine to Education to English Literature proving that this second chapter of Zeta is indeed second to none!

"Striving towards the perfection of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood" -Beta Chapter 1921-beyond!

Our Mission

The Mission of Beta Chapter is that of our international organization, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. The undergraduate chapter sorors of Beta Chapter strive towards the perfection of sisterhood, scholarship, finer womanhood, and service. We view everyday as a new opportunity to promote positive change and growth in our sisters of Zeta and the community at large. Beta Chapter is a group of young college women who share in the vision of our illustrious founders. Through this web initiative we hope to raise awareness about our chapter and organization.
