So you'd like to own a Great Dane. Of course! After seeing Chance, Loki and Tuni, who could resist? Great Danes come in seven beautiful colors. Put your cursor over the rockin' Danes and you'll see:

Brindle      Black      Fawn

Blue     Harlequin     Mantle     Merle

There are also deaf Danes like Chance, and they make the most wonderful pets. Deaf Danes are mostly white, and may be all white like this:

Jody Cohen with Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc. (MAGDRL), adopted "Aspen," a deaf Dane in May 1998 (when she was 7 months old). She says about Aspen, "What a treasure she is!!!"

Marc Sayer has a wonderful website for Deaf Dane Rescue, Inc. Please visit and consider adopting a deaf Dane.

You can also visit his home page Gracieland Kennels.

Before you choose a Great Dane, I'd suggest you check out these links as well as many, many others on the internet. The first one is Chance's breeder's website:

Since Baybe, Chance's Catahoula friend, lives in Florida, here's a list of Great Dane rescue organizations in Florida. There are rescue organizations in every state.

Great Dane Rescue of Northeast Florida, Inc.       Jacksonville Area
Southwest Florida Great Dane Rescue, Inc.          Sarasota Area
Great Dane Rescue of South Florida                       Ft. Lauderdale Area
Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue                    Pensacola Area
Great Dane Rescue of Tallahassee, Inc.
Central Florida Great Dane Rescue, Inc.

Here are some fun Dane sites to visit also:

  • The Great Dane Room – info on Dane Health Care, Dane Safety Tips, Dane Food Recipes and Buying and Owning a Dane
  • The Dog House   Go to Samson's page and read A Great Day in the Life of A Dane – A Journal written through the eyes of Samson, a Great Dane
  • Three Dog Bakery. One of the most famous Deaf Great Danes has to be "Amazing Gracie", who was the inspiration for the Three Dog Bakery. Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff, the co-founders and owners of Gracie said, "Courage. Compassion. Kindness. Soul. Tenacity. And joy - above all, joy. These qualities Gracie possessed in abundance, and shared with everyone, human or canine, who had the good fortune to cross her path." Gracie passed away, but her story will live on through the bakeries, her book "Amazing Gracie A Dog's Tale," and the Gracie Foundation. If you haven't been to one of these bakeries, or read Gracie's touching story, even if you don't own a Great Dane, you are truly missing something. Baybe was fortunate to meet Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff, and got to taste some very delicious doggie treats.

Last but not least, here are some deaf Great Dane websites.
