Club Valencia captain Mohamed Nizam finally accomplished the most prestigious award - Maldivian Footballer of the year 2002. This was the first time he prevailed this coveted milestone. Despite not winning the award for last couple of years, he had been among the top 5 players since 1997, but only triumphed in 2002.Club Valencia striker Ali Shiham (Huraa Ayya) won the second successive golden boot award for his swashbuckling 25 goals in 2002. The golden boot was awarded to Huraa Ayya by the Minister of Construction and Public Works Umar Zahir. Ali Shiham, who won the Maldivian Footballer of the year last year, plummeted to bottom this time. The trophy for the footballer with a financial award of MRF 15000/- was unfortunately not collected by Thoddoo as he was not present at the ceremony eccentrically. Thoddoo won the title for 2002 by 88 points from a panel of judges that included sports journalists, commentators, managers and Maldives top coaches.
