A Knight with the Viper Chapter 1 Frankie Waters stared at the black Camaro that was on the monitor. The Defender had finally caught up with it just as it was leaving the city. 'Not very impressive,' he thought, 'Cole should catch it easy.' "Well Frankie," Dr. Allie Farrow said, "You're the car buff. What do you know about this one?" "Early 90s Camaro. Top speed 120, 150 max. Hardly worth it to send Cole and Westlake after it." "Frankie," Thomas Cole's voice said over the speaker, "we're at 170 and still accelerating." "Really." Frankie was interested now. "We're gonna try the electro-pulse on it." Since Cole was busy driving at this incredibly high speed, Det. Cameron Westlake began charging up the electro-pulse cannon. "All set." she said. Cole hit the button. The electro charge flew towards the black car. It impacted. "Yes" Westlake said to herself. The charge ran all over the car, completely enclosing it for a split second. The charge dissipated and the Camaro continued to accelerate. 180. "What the hell?!" Westlake exclaimed. "Allie, what went wrong?" "Just a sec Cole." Allie ran a quick diagnostic on the electro pulse system. "It's working perfectly." "Get a scan on this thing." Cole said. Allie activated the infra red, trying to see exactly what was powering this "thing". She couldn't believe what her computers were telling her. "That car's running at 120 degrees!" "That's impossible!" Frankie said, "the Defender runs at 200 degrees." "Well figure out how it does that later." Cole said. His voice was slightly agitated. "I'm going to use the guns, try to take him out." Westlake looked at Cole, surprised. "At this speed he'll lose control and probably kill himself in the crash. Why not use the hook?" "At this speed, the hook will tear off his rear end. He'll lose control and crash and we'll lose control when his rear end slams into us." Westlake nodded. Cole pushed one of the buttons on the steering wheel and the machine guns came to life. The bullets bounced off the car like they were made of rubber. Cole and Westlake stared at the car. Allie and Frankie stared at the monitor. Everyone was speechless. Frankie was the first to speak up. "Did what I think happen just happen?" "What's going on here, Allie?" Westlake sounded agitated now. "Hang on", Allie attempted to scan the mystery car. "I'm not reading an damage to that thing. In fact, I can barely scan it at all!" "I'm going to try to force him off the road." Cole gave the Defender all it had. The speed was now 200 miles per hour, the Defender's top speed. The Defender began to overtake the Camaro. They were right next to each other. "I can't see inside, the tints are too dark." Westlake said. The Defender was about to pass the Camaro when the unthinkable happened. The Camaro accelerated. It began to leave the Defender behind. "Allie!" Cole yelled. "That thing is going 240 miles an hour. There's no way your gonna catch it." "Damn!" Cole hit the wheel. The Camaro was already going out of site. "Alright, were headed back. Get the jewelry store's security video." The Defender did a 180 and headed back to base. It was a great day for cruising. The sun was shining, the top was down, and rock and roll was on the stereo. Michael Knight turned the volume way up. "Michael," KITT said. "Must you play your music at such deafening levels?" "Some music, KITT, is meant to be played at ear bleeding levels." Michael said. And with that he gave the knob another crank. "Good grief." KITT said. It almost sounded like he sighed. Then the mobile line buzzed. "Devon's calling." Michael activated the screen. "Yo Devon!" "Hello Michael. How did the decapitation case go?" Devon asked. "I never want a case that weird again. Leave those to local homicide." "You couldn't find any leads?" "I spoke to some guy named Nash, but he wasn't any help. I turned the case over to local homicide and left it at that." "Well that will have to suffice I suppose. We have here another odd one for you. It seems that a jewelry store was robbed about an hour and a half ago." "Why does that need the Foundation's attention?" "Apparently, the robbery was committed when a car crashed through the side wall. The wall was reinforced concrete. " Michael could feel the color leave his face. "Devon I only know two cars that can do that, and I'm sitting in one of 'em." "Yes I know." Devon's voice was serious. "I'm sending the information on the robbery to KITT. Contact me the minute you learn anything." "I'm on my way." The screen shut down. "I've received the information." KITT paused. "Do you think it's him Michael?" "I wouldn't put anything past him KITT. Plot me the fastest route." Michael hit the "C" button and the top closed. Westlake had just arrived at the scene. The area was closed off and forensics was checking out the area. A black car pulled up a few feet away. Westlake flinched. A Trans Am not a Camaro. The black car fiasco had left her a bit jumpy. 'What kind of car could out race the Defender?' She thought to herself. That thought had been racing through her mind ever since she left the base. She looked back at this car that just arrived. She noticed the red lights that ran back and forth in the nosepiece. 'Wonder what that's for?' she thought. The driver of the car got out. A tall man in a black leather jacket. He was headed towards the crime scene. Westlake kept her eyes on him. He walked over to the giant hole in the wall and looked it over closely. 'Is he talking to his watch?' Westlake asked herself. She began to walk over toward him. "Getting anything KITT?" Michael asked his partner. "There are no residuals of any kind. There doesn't seem to be any way to determine what destroyed this wall." "Not even a tire track. This is definitely going to be fun." "Fun? I detect no source of amusement." "Just being sarcastic buddy, forget it. Pipe down someone's coming." Westlake arrived by Michael. "What are you doing, this is a crime scene." "I'm sorry," Michael said, " I was just curious about what could've gone through a wall this thick?" "Well, this is police business and I'm going to have to ask you to leave." Westlake said. Michael smiled, "No problem. Good luck." With that, he walked back to KITT. "Weird-o," Westlake mumbled to herself. Michael sat down in his seat. "What now?" KITT asked. "Now we wait for the police to finish and come back later. In the meantime we'll ask some questions around the area." Michael started the car and drove off. Westlake watched the Trans Am drive off. She made a note of the license plate. 'KNIGHT'. Westlake got back to the others. "Anything?" Cole asked. "Not a thing. Forensics couldn't find a damn thing." Westlake was obviously annoyed. "Well, Frankie's going over the Defender's weapons and Allie's got the security video from the store." They walked over to Allie's station. "Ready for the show?" Allie said. She punched a few keys and the video started. It seemed normal. It was afternoon when the robbery occurred so the owner was at lunch. Then it got interesting. All of a sudden the black Camaro crashed through the sidewall. It didn't have a mark on it. The driver got out. A tall man with black clothing and a black ski mask. He quickly filled his bag with some of the larger diamonds. He knew what to take. "Obviously knows where all the good ones are," Cole said. "He must have cased the store. We'll ask the owner if he remembers anyone ....," Westlake stopped in the middle of her sentence. "What is it?" Allie asked. "Can you zoom in on the front of the car?" "Yeah sure," Allie said. With a few simple commands the screen was focused on the cars front. There, they all took notice of the red lights moving back and forth on the nose. Frankie had joined them at this point. "What's that?" he asked. "I don't know," Westlake said, "but I saw another car at the crime scene with the exact same lights on it." Cole turned towards his team, "Looks like we may have our first lead." To be Continued...
