"This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief" (I Tim. 1:15).

Welcome to Soli Deo Gloria!

This site is dedicated to providing solid, biblical teaching on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Due to the apparent decline in such Scriptural instruction, today's "church" is ever-more-quickly departing from the true doctrines of our Lord. Like Jude, I feel that today, more than ever, it is necessary "to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3). The only way to combat doctrinal error is by use of the Word of God, for, as Paul writes, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (II Tim. 3:16,17). In addition, as Paul instructed Timothy to "give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine" (I Tim. 4:13), so all Christians, not ministers only, are called to do the same.

Furthermore, I am firmly of the conviction that the ecumenical movement, which holds that doctrine is irrelevant and Christian unity--rather than godliness--should be the goal of all Christians, is in large part responsible for the watered-down Gospel preached from so many pulpits today. This is a view that is certainly unpopular, but I will take my chances on that. Concering ecumenism, I am of the same mind as Martin Luther, who once wrote,

"In a word, what you say comes to this: that you do not think it matters a scrap what anyone believes anywhere, so long as the world is at peace; you would be happy for anyone whose life, reputation, welfare or influence was at stake to emulate [Tertullian] who said, 'if they affirm, I affirm; if they deny, so do I'; and you would encourage him to treat Christian doctrines as no better than the views of human philosophers--about which, of course, it is stupid to wrangle and fight and assert, since nothing results but bad feeling and breaches of outward peace. 'What is above is does not concern us'--that is your motto...Fear the Spirit of God, who searches the reins and heart, and is not deceived by stupid speeches...The Holy Spirit is no Skeptic, and the things He has written in our hearts are not doubts or opinions, but assertions--surer and more certain than sense and life itself." (The Bondage of the Will, pp. 69,70.)

I must make it perfectly plain that I am not of the mind that Christians should "strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers" (II Tim. 2:14), that is, that we should divide over useless, human, petty issues which have no bearing on the authority of Scripture or the glory of God. However, where one of the Bible's holy truths, and they are ALL holy truths, is attacked, all good soldiers of Christ must rush to its defense.

And what is the purpose of all of this? To give glory to God by honoring the Scriptures. What must a lost world think of a church that does not even honor the Words of the God to Whom it claims allegiance? Is that glorifying and pleasing to God? The answer is obvious. In closing, then, I will leave you with the words of Paul in Ephesians 1:3-14,

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him. In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed witht the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY."
