Article 4: Adam Curry Wants to Make You an iPod Radio Star Annalee Newitz
This article which contained a interview with Adam Curry discussed how easy podcasting is. In the article Adam Curry is actually conducting a podcast from the front seat of his BMW outside of Starbucks, dictating how easy to use and compatible this technology is with our already existing laptop computers. You just need a microphone and a network connection and you are able to broadcast to the world. This article briefly explains the history or podcasting with some background on one of the inventors; Adam Curry. The article then continues to expound and move into the arena of the reason in which podcasting is beneficial to society, like how it allows people to get on their own little soap-box to the world an focus on obscure topics.

Fifth Blog Entry
Today’s class was a hands on game, in which we as groups got to play out different roles the resembled those in a company attempting to diffuse their headset computer into the global market. In this we as groups got to either implement or throw away the ideas of this new technology. My group being the “big business” players in this game decided to agree and combine with the laggers, for this technology just did not seem sensible. We had to look at things such as cost, how durable it was, weight, and harmful affects it may have. We decided not to promote this technology in our stores due to the discussions that we took part in with other members of our society.

This class period we watched a movie on “The Media’s influence on the things we do.” I really enjoyed this documentary for the media does play a great role in what we consider to be socially and politically correct almost forming the culture. I really enjoyed having our group discussion in this class period for we in groups got a chance to discuss the effect of the media had on our own personal lives, even if we don’t necessarily spend a lot of time engaging in the media, yet still haircuts, styles and language evolve from out contact with this technology. These theories on how the media effects and alters our behaviors are: Magic Bullet theory, Limited effects, Multi-Step Model, and the Social Learning theory.

Diffusion of technology has been the focus of lecture and houw technology spreads throughout society. We discussed the advantages of this technological era, compatibility, complexity, trial ability, and observation of many new and old technologies. The history of technology and how it has evolved throughout the decades, defiantly plays an enormous role in technological stance at the current moment. Mass communications plays a major role in society and has definitely has become a part of our culture.

Article 3: Podcasting Power for the People Liz Harper, Online NewsHour
This article is much like that of a car salesman, although the article is attempting to sell you the idea of podcasting as opposed to a car. Podcasting is a blend between the ipod and broadcasting through such a unit. This article focuses more on the idea of the audio blogs in which individuals can post there own songs to be heard by the multitude untouched by corporations.
Podcasting allows the audience to fast forward and rewind the shows in which they have downloaded. The number of listeners has grown very quickly and companies such as GNC and Heineken have taken advantage of the opportunity to broadcast through podcasting.

• Compatablity- How companies are going to make agreements and exploit this form of media/communication.
• Trial ability- look at how GNC and Heineken are mastering the art of advertising through this system.

Second Blog Entry
Today we had a lecture on chapter one which discussed the characteristics of mass communications. This changed the functions of media in general. We also held group discussion periods in our groups allowing us to get to know and interact with our peers in which we will later conduct our group projects with. I really enjoyed this class period for i had the opportunity to make connections with other people of the same major as I. I also gained a feeling of being more a part of this braod campus and it was reassuring.

This particular article initially gave me a definition of what podcasting truly was; “…a free service that allows internet users to pull audio files from a podcasting website listen to them on their computer or personal digital audio player.” This knowledge helped me to begin to formulate opinions on such advanced technology, and understand and acknowledge the masterminds behind such an inventive project, Adam Curry and Dave Winer. This article also laid out step by step instructions describing on how one would record their own voice and then download it.

Yesterday was our first day of class. We as a class went over the syllabus and class expectations dictated through our professor Candace Egan. In this class period we also individually took a test to categorize our unique personalities which were divided up into four groups to identify with. This study was conducted in order for our professor to assign us into small groups to conduct activities with in order to balance out personality traits and cause the least amount of drama and hard ship.
