The Beginning of Survival
Mood:  celebratory
Now Playing: Dar Williams,
I think it's time to start it up here. Suddenly certain areas of my life are coming together and beginning to make more sense. Music, pop culture, literature, teaching, politics; they all have made an impact on me as a person and educator. Teaching is slowly becoming part of who I am.

Last night it occurred to me that it would be much more worthy to myself and perhaps other, if I kept a journal based on my academic interests as well as the process of my project.

I'm a few weeks into my third semester of my masters at D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY. My schedule is jammed with research methods, theory development, literature reviews, and READING.

First off, I want to make it understood that my literature review for project one, will be on Service Learning, a topic that I'm fascinated by. I brought this topic idea to my professor and showed an interest in relating service learning to Social Reconstructionism. I wasn't quite making the connections yet, but I knew that I wanted to pick a subject (and theory) that excited AND interested me. It took me three weeks to come full-circle and arrive at the topic that I had originally wanted to do. My prof suggested that I read up on Peter McLaren.

I went home that night and did the ole google method. I was brought to Peter's website through UCLA. Immediately, I thought, "This is it." I went to class the next week, sharing my definitive decision with my peers and prof. My prof smiled at me from the end of the conference room table and asked, "You do realize that he's coming here in April, right?" Needless to say, I've been pumped about this since Monday.

I'm providing links on the left-hand sidebar. I'm still very new to this website/blogging stuff, so if you see any major flaws or mistakes, please share them with me. Keep in mind that this is merely a journal, that I'm a novice, and a horrible SPELLER!

Hope you enjoy.
