Week 16, Day 85
Though
I had said yesterday that I wouldn't be writing for a while due to the
house move, Dave and I got word yesterday that we are ok to stay in our
current abode until Saturday. That left us a little relieved. As did the
news that the real estate agency has accepted us as tenants for the house
we applied for - yay! We move in at 9am this Saturday. As much as I've
enjoyed living here in Meanwood, it'll be nice to settle into a place
I can properly call home.
In other good news, I had a phone call from my employment agency. At first
I thought she was just following up my work trial to see how I found it.
So I started telling her the events. I then said that the Nando's staff
had told me they were impressed with my work, and she informed me that
I had my final interview lined up already for next Monday! Talk about
fast! That left me rather chuffed :)
And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the Weight Watchers
meeting I attended only kept bringing on the good things in life. I lost
2lbs after a damn good week so I was very proud of myself (only another
8 to go before I can fit back into that dress for your preso Nicole!).
But the clincher was in relation to one of the members. Last week, I was
in charge of weighing people and I had one distressed woman who insisted
she had done her best for the two weeks previous but had only lost 1/2lb
each week (I think that's good but she still wasn't happy). So like a
true WW Leader I went through everything with her. I informed her that
as stupid as it sounds, she needed to eat more. She was eating very minimal
but doing a hell of a lot of exercise, and believe it or not, you actually
need to eat in order to lose weight. She didn't seem convinced but I assured
her that if she followed my advice she'd see results. And if I was wrong,
then she could put the blame on me. Anyhow, I didn't get to weigh people
this week because we had a subsitute leader who insisted on doing it herself.
During the meeting, the lady I helped out spoke out about her awesome
week. She said she had gone home with my advice in mind, consulted her
friend who is also at WW (and doing extremely well), and she concurred
with me. So this lady tested it out. And you know what? She lost 4lbs
this week! I wasn't just impressed by her efforts, I was also relieved.
The poor woman looked like she was going to cry the week before and she
admitted that she was ready to throw the towel in. To top off her great
loss, she won the class cup (the leader at the meeting has this trophy
that the person who loses the most that week gets to take home). She came
up to thank me, and it really did make my day.
Being in a good mood meant that I was up for the social gathering that
had been planned. Caroline and Cassie's friend is in a swing band who
was playing at a club in town called The Atrium. It also marked the beginning
of Helen's (that's Si's sister who is a doctor) short weekend break and
she was out to party. So we - Dave, Caroline, Cassie, Sam, Tom, Helen,
Johnny (Si's brother) and Sarah (Johnny's wife) - all met at a pub in
town before heading to The Atrium. It was packed and I thought it wasn't
an ideal place for a swing band to play but everyone got into it and it
was fun. I think for me it was just good to be out and hearing good music.
Should be seeing The Thrills next week, and another swing band, so maybe
it's just the beginning of a string of good gigs. One can only hope!
After finally finishing Stephen King's "Needful Things" the
other day - I must admit, I was a little disappointed it wasn't scarier,
but I did enjoy it - I've picked up an old favourite of mine, Orson Scott
Card's "Ender's Game". I found it at a second hand book store
and bought it for Dave to read. He got right into it, and because I've
forgotten the finer details of the series, I thought it'd be a good time
to re-read it. Unfortunately, my collection is back home but I've managed
to find all the books here and am buying them as we get through them.
God I love that book and the thing is, each book in the story just gets
better and better. Of course, I have Bron to thank for getting me hooked
in the first place :)
Speaking of, "Harry Potter" is out on Saturday!! Woohoo!! One
of the presents I know I'll be getting for my birthday ;) Yay!
Things are looking good after feeling like everything's been in the air.
Events revolving around my birthday on Tuesday are still a little hazy
which is annoying, but I'm grateful for everything that has been going
right, and even if I have to postpone celebrations, it'll be worth the
wait. I'm looking forward to having a few drinks to be honest! Unfortunately,
Dave's grandfather (on his father's side) passed away this week, and the
funeral is on my birthday, though I don't think he's going in the end.
What's weird about that is last year, my godmother's father passed away
and also had his funeral on my birthday. I hope this isn't the beginning
of some kind of jinx - oh dear! Anyhoo, I've got my own room, job possibilities
and a blossoming social life to look forward to in the coming week - what
more can I ask for?
Keep it real y'all! Erm, yeah...
x
