Artist's
Statement My focus is expressing the beauty that I see and feel in nature. The liquid quality of watercolor allows a natural flow of colors, creating a beauty that might never have occurred with careful planning. One of the
pleasures of being an artist is that I can let go of the part of myself
that tries to figure everything out. Instead, I rely on intuition
and imagination in conjunction with technique. If
I have done this well, I feel that I have made a joyful connection with
myself and with nature, which is why I continue to be an artist. Now that I'm retired, I have the freedom to explore what art means to me and, like a kid, pursue any creative idea that comes to mind. These pages are meant to show what I've been up to and to inspire others to find their creative groove. I have taken
a few wonderful art classes, but I am primarily a self-taught painter
(acrylics, watercolors) and photographer. My work has been displayed at
Florida My 2005-06 award winning photos were on display at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, Tryon, NC, June 15-July 31, 2006 and again June 12 - June 30, 2007. For the 2006/07 year "Dragonfly" was awarded Print of the Year by the Carolina Camera Club. I was also part of a group show at the Kaplan Auditorium, Henderson County Public Library, for the month of May, 2007. In January, 2008, eleven of my photographs were on display at Florida Atlantic University's Jupiter Campus Library. Later that year my photographs were again on display at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
