Biography:
Daniel Leo was born in 1941, in the 1970's he was listed by the Drug Enforcement Agency as a reputed member of East Harlem based violent naroctics gang known as The Purple Gang, a gang which Bonanno Crime Family Boss Michael "Mikey Nose" Mancuso, has also been listed a member of. Leo, who is now 65, lives in a $2 Million home in Rockleigh, New Jersey, a town that boasts the highest median household income in the state, according to the 2000 Census. There is not much of a public record on Leo, but he is believed to be the new Boss of the Genovese Crime Family, less than one year after the death of Imprisoned Boss Vincent "the Chin" Gigante. During the year it was believed that Mario Gigante was the Interim Boss of the most powerful family in the United States. From what is known of Leo, besides his membership to the Purple Gang, he is a low key and well respected Genovese mobster who has been able to beat the system. He is a heavyweight and a major player in the family. Many sources also agree that Leo has served for many years as a top official in the crime family with little fanfare or notoriety.

Leo sufferred his only arrest in 1980, when he was hit with a criminal contempt indictment for refusing to testify before a grand jury that was investigating loansharking, drug trafficking, and four murders, two in East Harlem and two in The Bronx. Although he was found guilty, and his felony conviction was upheld on appeal, he spent no time in prison. In a bug that the F.B.I. placed during an investigation Genovese Family Caporegime Salvatore "Sammy Meatballs" Aparo described Leo's role in a Mafia induction ceremony for the genovese Family that included Aparo's son Vincent and 14 others, Leo was the man who pricked the fingers and told them what to say during the ceremony. A year later in October 2000, another family Caporegime, Alan "Baldy" Longo described Leo, along with Lawrence "Larry Fab" Dentico, as close associates of Gigante, who were running the family following the Chins' racketeering conviction in 1997.

Leo has also been implicated in two violent extortion schemes an arraignment held for his right hand man, Charles Salvano. According to prosecutors Leo and Salvano teamed up to shake down an East Harlem gambling operation for $20,000 and tried to extor $250,000 from a taxi-company owner, threatening to put him in a wheelchair if he didn't pay. Salvano was arrested in late November ,2006(around the same time Leo was appointed family boss). Leo, was not charged in the case, and continues his clean rap sheet since the year 1980. Only time tell what will happen to the new King of the Genovese Family, at 65 he could possible be around for a long time, or a very short period of time.
