Charlie descends from the Charles McClain of Virginia who fought in the American Revolution and settled in South Carolina. Charlie's father was Josiah Marion McClain who first married Julia America King in Georgia but left her and their children to come to Alabama and marry Elizabeth Broadway who gave birth to Charlie in 1886. Charlie was a short dark Indian man who was very spiritual; he was in World War I and he worked at the Church, made caskets as the epidemics caused a great need, and he was a farmer. Charlie married Lorena Emma Bozeman in 1908 in Ramer, Alabama and died in 1949, buried in Dublin Church of Christ Cemetery. His sons were military also, married and had no sons.
