I'm in a New York state of mind...
"Dig if you will a picture, of you and I engaged in a kiss..."

Oh man, the 80's station just played "Heart and Soul" and "When Doves Cry" back-to-back on my way home from work.

Back to the YANKEES/RED SOX series... Did anyone else notice the similarities between this game and GAME SIX of the CUBS/MARLINS series? Both the YANKEES and MARLINS were down 3 runs, with one out in the 8th inning when their rally started. Both managers of the losing teams, Baker and Little, elected to leave their starting pitcher in until the other team had tied the game. PEDRO left with it 5-5 and a man on second. PRIOR left the other night with the game tied 3-3 and runners on second and third. What is up with that? I can understand the Cubs not trusting their bullpen, but Boston's had pitched great this series, AND they had LOWE and WAKEFIELD they could use.

RIVERA got the MVP, and it was well-deserved. There were so many heroes for the YANKEES though. Obviously, BOONE, who has struggled since coming over, and was even benched for this game, comes off the bench to hit the game-winning homer. GIAMBI, who has also been struggling and playing a bit injured I think, was moved down to seventh in the lineup, and he kept the YANKEES alive with 2 solo homers early on. He was the only YANKEE that could do anything the first six innings against PEDRO. If they come into that 8th inning down 5-0 instad of 5-2, I don't think they win. But that's what great players do... they respond when they are challenged.
Anyway... Go Yankees!

"I let her take advantage of me, you see. She gets what she wants, cos she's heart and soul. She's hot and cold. She's got it all, hot lovin' every night. Oh-oh. Ohhhohhhohhohhh..."

Picks and Prose
Man, people are lurking here today like I'm carrying around a plate of free Chick-Fil-A samples or somethin'.. don't you people have work to do?!?! It's Friday. Now get away, so I can surf and blog. lol

Here are my picks for this week. I have been 5-2 the last two weeks, but feel a little more shaky on these:

Texas A&M (+11) @ Nebraska
UCLA (-3.5) vs. Cal
Texas Tech (+3) @ Oklahoma State
Iowa (+3.5) @ Ohio State
TCU (-10.5) vs. UAB
Colorado (+18) @ Kansas State
Texas (-16.5) @ Iowa State

Ok, there is no prose.. that was just a tease. lol Well, unless you count the lyrics always included at the end of my entries. On the old age front, my shoulder was killing me (it's killing me Jerry! it's killing me!) yesterday. I don't know if I slept on it wrong, or hurt it during work Wednesday night, but there were only a couple of positions I could hold it without excruciating pain. I took a couple of ADVIL before going to bed last night and that seemed to help a bit. It feels some better today. The thing is, it's my right arm, my stroking arm, for billiards! So hopefully, it won't hurt my game any. It's also the shoulder I hurt last year during softball, when I forgot to warm up before the game and flung one in from the outfield. So something is probably still torn from that, and is just flaring up. lol

Oh I forgot to mention, during our coversation last night, I asked JESSICA if they had taken the Staten Island Ferry while they were up there. She was like, "Yep, we were on it Saturday!" Pretty freaky.

Snippet from a conversation I had this morning with J-MO:

Me: So you don't have like a network-monitor that you have to worry about?
Him:I am worrying about it as we speak

PFS (pretty funny stuff) my friends. Blog on. I'm gathering some more thoughts about the game last night to post in a bit. I'm sure you're waiting in anticipation of that. Doesn't look like BILLIARDS is going to happen tonight. KYLE doesn't seem to be up for it. I think he's depressed again, but seeing BISHOP BLACK should cheer him right up... I guess. ROFL

"Dear Joan, I wanted to say I'm sorry for the screamin' last night, and the nights before. I wanted more from this, than anything I've ever known... dear Joan..."

Sometimes you wanna go where (most) everybody knows your name
Wow, what a night... I wrote out some bills while watching the first few innings of the game last night. AMBER called and we chatted for a few. I ran to the POST OFFICE, and then decided to head to APPLEBEES to watch the rest of the game. SHANE called on my way up there. He was like "Is KYLE with you?" I said, "Oddly enough, he's not." ROFL We had a nice laugh about that, although I'm not sure what that even means. He was like "Well have fun, then come home and do your blog." I was like, "Oh, don't worry."

I guess I got to APPLEBEES around 9:15. No one was really working. DAVINA was up there, but had been cut. JESSICA and BETH were up there hanging out. I sat with NATALIE. SHIRLEY mistook me for KYLE, like always. She was like, "Is JEFF coming?" I was like, "JEFF'S here." lol Good grief. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich. DAVINA came over and chatted for about ten minutes. She was going to order some food and eat with me, then she remembered that her mother had cooked, so she went home to eat some home-cooked food. I hadn't spoken to BETH or JESSICA because their backs were turned to where I was sitting, plus they had some guys over there hitting on them, I think. I finished up and paid my check. I guess it was about 10:00. Right about that time the YANKEES tied up the game, so I couldn't leave then. I seemed to be one of the few YANKEES fans in the whole place. But it was great when POSADA tied it up with his double in the 8th, off of PEDRO. Poetic justice, I must say, after the way PEDRO was mouthing to him in GAME 3. So I decided to stay and watch some more of the game, even though it was getting late for me. lol

JESSICA finally saw me and came over and sat for a bit. Apparently, the guys that were sitting with them were getting on their nerves. She just got back from NEW YORK, and we talked about that for a bit. Her feelings were exactly like mine. She loved it, and would love to move there. I told her how I was saying the exact same thing almost as soon as I got there. Her hair looks soooo much better straight. She was lookin' really cute. After a few minutes, MIKE came and sat down and joined us. Then BETH came over. I told MIKE, "I guess this proves that if you sit here long enough, eventually chicks will show up and join you." lol He was like, "Yeah man, you just gotta dig in." BETH and JESSICA were waiting on MAGGIE to get there. BETH was like, "It's waaay past your bedtime isn't it?" I was like, "Yeah." So we talked for awhile. JESSICA said, "I left my purse over there (at the other table)." But neither of them wanted to go get it. lol MIKE had to go escort some homeless guy out of the restaurant. Then BETH went back over to the table. JESSICA and I talked a few more minutes. I finally got up to leave. It was nearly 11:00. Told everyone bye and came on home. It was a good night. I got home around 11:15.

On a sidebar, JESSICA was like, "Where's KYLE?" I was like, "I don't know." And she was like, "That other guy.. what's his name?" I was like, "Who?" She was like, "You know, he always talks to BETH." I was like, "Oh.. JON!!!" ROFL She was like, "Yeah, he was in here the other night." APPLEBEES fever is catching on apparently. lol

I gotta find a new sanctuary. ROFL

Sidebar #2... BETH was like, "We were talking about basketball the other night, and I said something about a rebound. And KEVIN was like, 'What's a rebound?'" ROFL WOooooooooo!! So they all started saying stuff like, "What's a basketball? Is that what those hockey guys hit?" lol That was great, although I don't really know what any of that means.

Sidebar #3... JESSICA commented to BETH about some girl that walked in, "Look at her shoes." I told MIKE, "There's something you don't hear guys say very much... look at his shoes." ROFL

Not sure what's going on tonight. Hopefully, I can fit some BILLIARDS in at some point.

"I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life. Go ahead with your own life, and leave me alone. I never said you had to offer me a second chance. I never said I was a victim of circumstance..."

The Yankees Win The Pennant!!!
AARON BOONE just hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 11th inning on the first pitch he saw. The Yankees beat Boston 6-5. Wooohoooo!!! Wouldn't ya know a former RED would be the hero. Wow! What a fantastic game. I don't get into baseball nearly as much as I do football, but that game was a classic. And it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.. Aaron Boone. JETER got it started in the 8th. MARIANO was lights out for 3 big innings.

I had a lovely call from an ex when the Sox were up 4-0 early in the game, to rub it in my face. I pretty much just kept silent, like whatever. Oddly enough, my phone ain't ringin' now babee! lol Yankees-Marlins in the World Series. The Red Sox and Cubs... losers again.

A random pet peeve... if YOU call someone, why are you gonna hang up on them? Ugggghhh! That is soooo high school.

It was an eventful night. I'll post more about it in the morning. It's late, and this white boy's gotta get in da bed.

"She was the one to hold me, the night the sky fell down. And what was I thinking when, the world didn't end. Why didn't I know what I know now? You look at her as she looks at me. She's got me thinkin' about her constantly, but she don't know how I feel. She carries on without a doubt. I wonder if she's figured out, I'm crazy for this girl..."

A little ado about nothing...
Just lounging around the house. Always remember when lounging to remove your pants so that they don't get wrinkled and lose the crease. lol

Just watched this ESPN special on Roger Clemens' 300th win. That was pretty touching. I wish I could tell you there's lots going on today, but there's not. Looks like I finally have a day to relax a bit. Got paid today, so i ran by the BANK after work. Ate some Dinty Moore beef stew out of the microwave for lunch. Probably need to save a little money, because I'm sure I'll have some medical bills coming in soon.

I do need to write out some bills and go to the post office. But that's about it for this afternoon. May go for a run. We'll see. The weather is great! I think I'll go rent a good romantic-comedy and watch it alone. Oh wait.

And of course, YANKEES/RED SOX, Game 7, Clemens vs. Pedro II, tonight. Presented by the wonderful Fox announcers... blech.

"She got out of town, on a railway New York-bound. Took all except my name, another alien on Broadway..."

Good Morning, Blog-It-Nam!
Recapping yesterday's happenings... Went to play BILLIARDS about 5:00. Neither KYLE nor I played very well. I think I ended up winning 5 out of 7. Had a sandwich while I was there. WES and TINA and NICHOLE were working. When I got my ticket, TINA rung it up and my tea was free. So looks like we've finally obtained 'regular' status and free soft drinks/tea at another locale, other than APPLEBEES. lol After that, headed to BIBLE STUDY, then did my weekly duty helping Dad (when I say "helping Dad" I mean "doing Dad's job" lol) after work. But hey, he needs hip replacement and can't get around real well, so obviously I'm going to help out. Plus, it's a little extra money.

Went to MCDONALD'S and got some fries and a large coke afterwards.--a little guilty pleasure of mine. Came home to watch the rest of the baseball game. The CUBS lost. lol I know, I know, big surprise, right? Between the two, I was for the Marlins. I can't believe the MARLINS came back from 3 games to 1 down. Poor Cubs fans. How do they keep rooting year after year, game after game? Lots of alcohol I guess. It's kinda like pulling for Nigeria to put a man on the moon. Well, ok, not really. My analogy-processor-chip is apparently malfunctioning today. Now the YANKEES need to win tonight.

I'm craving a CANDY APPLE. Seriouslah.

One of the members of the BlogNation, ERIC, apparently got reprimanded a bit for blogging from work. Fortunately, he's found a way to work around it, so he'll be able to remain a part of the blog-at-work community. lol I think they sentenced him to two weeks of BA. "Hello, my name is Bone, and I blog at work." ROFL We've all been there... oh wait.

"Please come to Boston for the springtime. I'm stayin' here with some friends and they've got lots of room. You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk, by a cafe where I hope to be workin' soon. Please come to Boston..."

Staten Island :-(
Well my mind has been on the ferry tragedy ever since KYLE came into TB asking if I'd heard about it, around 5:00 this evening. All the horror stories I've heard and read about in the news--a couple of people with amputations, someone decapitated, someone drowning. Horrible! If you're ever ridden the SIF, you know the front of it is basically open. There's just like a little gate, maybe three feet tall (??) between you and the water, or in this case, the pier. That is just terrible. At least maybe they could see what was coming though. I don't know. What about the people sitting inside, by the windows? I'm sure many of them had no idea what was happening. I read in one article that's where most of the injuries occurred, in the main deck area. It also said some people jumped into the water, but all I can remember are all those wooden pilings around there. Anyway, it's a terrible tragedy, and since I just rode it three months ago, I guess it hits home a little more. Am I over-reacting? I just think it's terrible.

I'll update today's activities tomorrow.

"He said son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes. But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete, when I wore a younger man's clothes..."

Everybody Wants To Rule The (Blog-)World
What's going on? Well, I need to study for a bit this afternoon. I'm tired, but I haven't been taking afternoon naps the last week or so. So by 9:00 PM, I'm wiped. I was joking with someone earlier than my cell plan with "free minutes after 9:00" isn't helping me any, cos I'm asleep by then. lol So maybe I need some sort of senior citizens plan. Free minutes from 4PM until dark. lol

Had CHICK-FIL-A for lunch. It was good. It just about always is, although my waffle fries were cold. Went by and aired up my tire on the way home. Yes, I'd rather stop every two weeks and put a little air in it than to spend $400 for four new tires. lol I can't figure out what's wrong. No cuts, scratches, or foreign objects inserted into the tire. Maybe it's seeping out around the rim on the inside.

Here's a funny observation: I always get the Mountain Dews with the little contest caps on them. I've won quite a few free 20 oz. MD's, and yet I never redeem them. lol

Random thoughts I had while driving down the road yesterday...

"I think I know this road to and from work so well, that I could drive it with my eyes closed. Let's see." ROFL

"Doctors say the average human would live about ten days without sleep. Hmmm. I believe I will test out that theory." lol

Also just read today that the 80's duo TEARS FOR FEARS are reuniting. Wooohooo! That made my day. lol

"Please don't change. Please don't break. The only thing that seems to work at all is you. Please don't change at all, from me to you, and you to me, yeah..."

Farewell my summer love...
The end of summer... I know, summer's officially been over for three weeks. But it has still been pretty warm around here lately. It finally looks as though the cool temperatures have arrived. There's something sad about the end of summer. The vacations, the beach trips, all the outdoor activities of the past months, will always be remembered. But we'll never relive the summer of 2003. They're now just a part of our past--pages in our life we can flip thru, memories we can recall, stories we can retell, but moments we can never recreate. So as we see the passing of time, hopefully we realize the value of today. Let us live each day to its fullest and value every moment. Treat each person you see as if it's the last time you may ever have the chance to enjoy their presence. Why look to a future which we may never see, or cling to a past we can never go back to again? Today IS the yesterday we'll look back on fondly. It is the tomorrow that held so much hope and promise. But alas, there are good times ahead. I look forward to Christmas and Thanksgiving, seasons filled with love and family and friends. But something about the end of summer always makes me a little sad... sort of like the end of the weekend, to the 10th power.

This time of year always brings to mind the beach trip on Labor Day Weekend 1998. We actually stayed until Tuesday morning, but everyone else it seemed left Monday morning, to be back at work on Tuesday. And Monday night, I remember going into a convenience store which just the day before had been packed with people enjoying the weekend at the beach. But that night, I was the only customer. I commented to the cashier about how quiet and deserted everything was. She said it always got like that after Labor Day. It's funny how the same exact place can be so busy and lively and filled with people one day, and the very next be so deserted, quiet, and lonely.

It was interesting, a very profound moment, and a great trip, too. One of those summer trips you find yourself wishing you could recreate. Eh, maybe it's just me.

"But summer's gotten away from us. Time's moving too fast for us, bye bye. Don't turn around cause you might see me cry. Farewell my summer love. Farewell. Girl I won't forget you..."
