Media Updates
There was a brief follow-up by Rainbow Rowell about our group. www.omaha.com and search her name. It is tied to the article about her flying with her family.
There was a good piece on the Today Show early this week. Pete at www.athomedad.com has a link to the video in his newsletter section. It was well done and worth checking out.
Thanks to Mike for setting up the weekly playgroup in Omaha. There are more things coming down the line for Lincoln and Omaha in the near future.

Hope to have the message/email board up this week.

May 15, 2006

Hey gentlemen. While Phil is getting a little R&R I wanted to give you all an update. I visited the Benson Community Center and I think it looks good.
I set our start date. Fridays at 10:00. Starting Friday May 26. 60th and Maple on the NorthWest corner. Peg Watkins is in charge of the Benson center and I'm really looking forward to working with her. There will be a group e-mail going out to all of you that supplied that to us. I'll call the rest of you.
Thanks, Mike

Quick Update
I am off to Cali on Wed aft for the rest of the week. Mike and I are going to check out the Benson Rec center that has been offered as a site for free. Hopefully, if the site is good, we can get a regular playgroup up and running in Omaha in the next week or so. I haven't had a chance to put together the yahoo message board yet. Hopefully by the middle of next week. KPTM 42 has contacted us and is interested in joining the Omaha group for a story.

OWH Follow-up
Mike talked with Rainbow again yesterday for a followup article. Not sure when it will run. Can you guys in Omaha shoot me an email if you see it in there?
I took the boys to the childrens museum today and we were in the toddler area. A mom and I were talking and the subject of me staying at home came up. She asked"Did you see the article of the dad in the Omaha paper last week?" I told her I was the Phil from Lincoln in the article. I'm surprised how many people read it and remember it.

Yahoo Message Board
With the great turnout at Grandmothers, I am going to set up a message board account with yahoo (BTW, the manager said we are welcome back anytime). If you sign up for the list, every post can be automatically emailed to you. I will still be updating this web page with events and info as well. The yahoo message board is great way to make sure everybody is in the loop. This may not be done for a few weeks since I'm going to Cali May 10-14. I've got to get ahead at work and then catch up when I get back. Also will be busy with the opening of our neigborhood pool looming on Memorial weekend (I'm on the pool board).

Beisbol been berry berry good to me
We have set up tentative dates with our baseball outings.
Omaha Royals: SAT July 22 Its a DH at 4:05pm. We can get cheaper tix, good seats, name recognition, etc if we can get over 20 dads. This is a Dads Night Out event. We will probably start taking confirmations for tix early June.

Lincoln Saltdogs: SUN Aug 13 Should be 5:05 This is a Family Event. Sundays are family days at Haymarket Park and I think the Childrens Zoo is sponsoring the day with animals etc. $5 general admission tix, no need to reserve. We will hang out down the 1st base line near the playground. You can sit on picnic tables or grass berm area. If you haven't been to the park, its very family friendly.

Dads Night Out Review
I had a quick minute for a quick post. I think all 12 of us who were at Grandmothers last night were excited and optimistic about this group. Mike and I never thought we would have 12 so early in the formation of the group. Thank you to all the guys who made it. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and are planning on continuing with the group. Let us know what you think by posting comments below this post. I want to hear if you enjoyed it, ideas for locations, how often, etc. Remember Jackson's Pub in Gretna at the end of the month (details in earlier posts).

Website Update
The number of page views has gone back down to around 20-30 per day after spiking at around 150-160 after the OWH article. For some reason, I am unable to post comments replying to comments that show up on this site. I have personally emailed dads who have made comments and shown interest. I have received six messages/emails from dads interested in the group and Mike has four/five phone calls. Hopefully, most can show up on Wed night. If you have posted a comment or emailed me and haven't received a reply, please let me know.

Omaha Dads Night Out
The next dads night out for Omaha on May 3 at Grandmothers 82 & L 8pm was in the OWH today. Mike is going to arrive a little early and will be wearing his "Athome dad" shirt he bought at the convention a couple years ago. If you plan on going, call Mike at 339-5860 or email me so we know how many to count on. We will set up in the lounge and may have to move some tables together if we get enough dads.
