Letter to Stephen Harper
To the Prime Minister Stephen Harper;
As a Canadian citizen, I am horrified at the position officially taken by Canada in regard to what is currently happening in Lebanon:
By stating that Israel has a right to defend itself, you have, Mr. Prime Minister, aligned yourself with the warmongers of the world and turned your back on the notion of peace, a notion that I, like many Canadians, have always associated with Canada and Canadian values.
By stating that Israel has a right to defend itself, you have, Mr. Prime Minister, decided to punish innocent Lebanese civilians of all religions and ages just as Israelis and Hezbollah militants are punishing them.
Hezbollah does NOT speak for all of Lebanon, yet you have condemned the Lebanese people to a desolate future.
This is not what I have come to expect of Canada, a country known worldwide as a peace-keeping state.
This war MUST be stopped.
The culture of hate that brews between the Israelis and the Lebanese people MUST be stopped.
Canada MUST intervene.
You have been elected by the Canadian people, Mr. Harper, and I believe it is time that you act in accordance with Canadian values. How many more innocent people must die? How many times can Lebanon be rebuilt? How many more wars must be waged in the world before we wake up and see that war is not the answer?
