crashed into a church!"
There was no earthly explanation for his survival.
He should have died instantly, his brain injury was so severe!
Only God knows His own creation, and His special plans for us!
Let them say he will be a vegetable the rest of his life... but for now,
He has to feel safe, he has to be comforted, he has to KNOW Jesus!
Until I could
find someone to baptize him, I went to the local Christian family store
and bought some music for him. Through headphones, I played the style music
he liked, but with a Christian message. Over and over the words sang out
how much Jesus loved him.
Precious hours passed and finally, I did convince a Pastor to come and baptize my son! Because he said my son had just come to him a few days before the accident and asked to be baptized. Pastor told him that he had to go through classes first, so he gladly signed up for the classes. This told all of us, that he was ready to accept Jesus as his savior and be baptized.
Still, the pastor said he could not baptize him without his knowing WHY he was being baptized, which is what the classes do. But what Pastor would do for him is Christen him like they do babies. He would ask two young men, who went to the church, to sponsor my son, who was their friend, laying here in this deep coma. Hopefully, my son would not know the difference between being Christened and being baptized, and hear the ceremony like a baptism.
Then the First Miracle happened!
We were all amazed, as we gathered around his bedside in ICU... His sister, his little brother, his friends, the pastor and myself. The pastor chose to read the 23rd Psalm, and right around "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil," we were all reciting as tears fell down our cheeks, when after not moving for nearly 42 hours, he slid his left foot up and raised his left knee, high into the bed to let us know he was definately NOT dead! It was like he was saying "thank you" to all of us for the Christening! And obviously just what he needed to stay strong in all his confusion. And it was great for all of his friends and family's faith too!
Many miracles later, with God giving us one bibilical sign after another, letting us know He was there for us through the entire ordeal... My son beat all odds. Odds that included their letting him lay unattended and bite off the end of his tongue, and giving him not one, but FIVE doses of penicilin, when his chart clearly said he was allergic to it! The drug spiked high fevers (just as it did when he was young) that finally ended by a malfunctioning cooling blanket that nearly froze him to death! (This happened after I asked the prayer circles on the internet to be more specific in their prayers and ask for his high 106.5 temperatures to come down!) The malfunction in the cooling blanket was just one of those MANY miracles! I never quit believing God had a plan for him!
Then one day, against all odds, and all doctor's expert opinions... my son started tapping his toe to the beat of the Christian music! Something a "vegetable" could NEVER do!!! After weeks of doctors saying he would never respond to us!
Maybe not to us, but he responded
to the words in the music
about the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ!
The problem was, that he would not do this again for anyone
else. He had to respond to us in some way or they wouldn't work with him
and start his therapy.
Maybe not to us, but he responded
to the words in the music about the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ!
Then, on the 40th day in the hospital, HE WALKED!!
Not very well, but two little therapists came down and said that the big wigs who decided if he was ready for therapy or not, would have to believe he was, if he went "ambulatory!" So they drug him to his feet for another Miracle! I held the walker and they held him up to it and helped him move his legs. When he actually drug a foot up to the walker, I burst into tears! "Thank you Jesus!" Then they asked him if he wanted to stop, and he yelled "NO!" It was amazing!
He was now able to go to rehab! This was just one day before his 21st birthday!
