Iraq
is "grave and deteriorating" The Baker Report on a future strategy for Iraq acknowledges what the anti-war movement has always argued; that the war and occupation were a disaster from the start. After decimating an entire nation and presiding over the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, the US administration is now desperately seeking an alternative to total defeat. But, as Jonathan Steele writes, "What Baker proposes is essentially a continuation of what Bush is already doing - trying to reduce US deaths by moving troops out of the front line while avoiding any commitment to a full US withdrawal." The Baker Report does not include the only viable strategy, supported by the majority of people in Iraq, the USA and Britain: All occupation forces - American and British - must leave Iraq.
