Parts of a Boat
Mast-Tall vertical spar, sometimes sectioned, that rises from the keel or deck of a sailing vessel to support the sails and the standing and running rigging.

Fore and Aft-The back and front of a ship.

Headsail-Any sail set forward of the foremost of a vessel.

Mainsail-The lowermost sail on the mainmast.

Trysail-A small fore and aft sail hoisted abaft the foremast and mainmast in a storm to keep a ship's bow to the wind.
Sloop
Single masted, fore and aft rigged sailing boat with a short standing bowsprit or none at all and a single headsil set from the forestay.
Schooner
A fore and aft rigged sailing vessel having at least two masts, with a foremast that is usually smaller than the other masts.
Topsail Schooner
A schooner carrying two or more square topsails on its foremast.
Hermaphrodite Brig
A two masted vessel with a square-rigged foremast and a schooner rigged mainmast.
Brig
Two masted sailing vessel square-rigged on both masts.
Bark
Three or more masts, square rigged on fore and main masts, fore and aft on mizzen.
