Chapter 40 *Last Chapter*

Tears streamed down Shannon’s face as he said those magic words to her. She couldn’t even answer him right away, and a frightened look came across his face. He must have thought that she was going to say no, but she perked up and said yes. Tears of joy streamed down Chris’ face. This was the moment in his life he has always waited for. He stood up and pulled into a tight hug, sobbing in her ear. They held onto each other for what seemed like hours until everyone came into the room. Shannon’s head was buried in his chest, so no one could see her face, but they all saw Chris’ face, streaked with tears. "Oh my god! What happened? Are you alright?!," Jess practically yelled. Shannon stood straight up and smiled, "Yeah." She held out her hand to show them the ring that Chris gave her. Everyone hugged each other, knowing that Chris overcame his worst fears; commitment and rejection. It was then decided that the new couple should be left alone, so everyone made their way home.

Chris and Shannon made their way to the couch and sat in silence. They didn’t know what to say to each other. Chris broke the silence as he put his arm around her, "I wonder what Justin would think of this." Shannon shrugged, "I don’t know really, but I’m sure wherever he is now, he is happy for us." Chris raised a brow, "Why do you say that?" Shannon looked at him in the eye, "Because he told you to take care of me, and that is what you are doing." He smiled and kissed her lightly. Shannon stood up and took his hand, leading him outside. The sun was starting to set and they sat down next to each other on the blanket that was set out. Chris held onto her tight as she started to speak. "I have this strange fascination for sunsets. Just the feeling of watching the sun set on the world is amazing to me. . . " Her sentence was interrupted with the release of a few tears, "It seems like just yesterday that it was Justin was sitting here with, and yet, this is the way things happened. We would sit exactly like this, and just sit in silence." Chris kept holding her tight while she talked, "I miss Justin alot, but I’m so glad that you are here with me now." He lightly kissed her forehead, "I’m glad I am too. It’s just a shame how we got together though." She nodded and looked Chris in the eyes. She didn’t say a word, and neither did Chris. Words didn’t need to be said to express how they were feeling. There was so much love around them, it would have made a weak stomach turn.

The sun was set and darkness fell across the land. Chris stood up and scooped Shannon up with him. He carried her into the house, and stopped short of the door. "I’m going to show you the most romantic night you have ever had." She giggled like a little school girl as he lightly touched his lips to hers. He carried her deftly upstairs, and let the magic begin.
