Chapter 31

The figure that entered their house was painfully close to the doorway as it came closer and closer. Finally, it reached the door and was looking into the room and saw them laying in a bundle on the bed together. "Oh my god! First the park, and now THIS?" JC stood in the doorway and stared at the sight before him. "Shit, JC! You don’t understand!," Chris shouted, scooting away from Shannon who was bundled beneath endless blankets. "That’s where you are wrong! I understand! Just wait until everyone hears about this! I promised not to tell about the park, but this is. . . this is just wrong!" Shannon sat up, "What is so wrong about it?" JC opened his mouth wide as he thought about what to say, "What is so wrong about it? What is so wrong about it? Well gee, let me see. Your fiancée was killed not long ago and you are already sleeping with his best friend?!" Shannon had started to cry a little; JC’s stern voice and his strong words were too much for her. Chris held on to her, and looked at his friend. "Come on Jace, it's not what it seems. You truly don’t understand." "Well maybe you should explain it to me then," he snapped at him. "You remember last night when you said you knew we felt something for each other or whatever? Well, you were right as you know. And Justin knew it too. When he was lying there and I bent down and he whispered something to me, he told me something. . he told me to take care of her, and that is what I am going to do. And. . . and about the whole thing with Jess wanting her to meet someone. I don’t want her doing that, if she does, she will probably get hurt." JC stood quietly, looking down at his feet, "Well, I don’t know. I guess if Justin told you to take care of her, then I have no reason to get all bitchy about it, but you should have told us at least." Shannon lifted her head from her hands, "Told you?! How could we? Last night at the park you bitched because we were together, and today! Look what you did! How could we have possibly told you?" JC hung his head in shame, "I guess you are right. I’ve acted like a fool, and I am sorry. It just hurt that one of my best friends couldn’t be honest with me." Chris got out of bed and walked towards JC, putting a hand on his shoulder, "Now you know how it felt when you attacked us last night. It hurt us as well knowing that we couldn’t tell anyone without someone getting mad." With that, Chris and JC walked out of the room. "I’m gonna get fix some breakfast, come down when you are ready," Chris said to Shannon as he peeked his head in the door again.

Shannon got into the shower and tried to figure out what she was feeling. She felt hurt that JC would treat her like that, yet she felt secure for the way Chris was treating her. Of course, no matter what she would think of, her mind would always drift back to that last night she spent with Justin. She quickly got out of the shower and got dressed so that she could be able to sit down and eat with them. As she made her way downstairs, she could smell the food cooking, and she could hear JC and Chris talking about the previous night. She stood outside the kitchen where no one could see her so that she could listen to what they were saying. "I just don’t understand why Jess wanted her to meet up with someone so fast," Chris told his friend in a concerned voice. "Yeah, I know. I don’t think she realized that you and her had a thing going on." "But how could she not know, Jace? I mean, wasn’t it obvious?" JC got up to grab something out of the refrigerator, "Yeah, but she must not have thought about that. But whatever, its done, its past, and now. . well now what are you gonna do?" "What do you mean?," Chris asked curiously. "What I mean is, are you and Shannon gonna be an item now? Or what?" Chris crinkled his nose as he thought about the question imposed on him. "I don’t know really. I’d like that, but its all up to her. I don’t want to rush her into anything, and I don’t want everyone hating me and looking at me as if I’m the guy who took advantage of someone’s loss and made it my gain." "Do you want to be with her?" Chris nodded his head slightly, "More than anything." Shannon was still standing at the door, in shock by what was being said. She knew she had to come in eventually, but wasn’t quite ready to. As she stood there thinking about how to make her entrance, a sneeze took over her and they knew that she was near. She walked into the room and gave them a smile as she sat down.
