Chapter 10

Justin sat on the couch, just flipping through the channels. Shannon sat down beside him and cuddled up against him. "Joey is something else, isn’t he?," Justin asked suddenly. "Mm-hmm," she said back with her eyes closed. She hadn’t been getting much sleep lately. Worrying about Justin kept her up at late hours. "I wonder where Chris is! He’s been gone for a long time now!," she looked around the living room. Justin didn’t seem to be paying attention to anything she said, he just stared at the basketball game that was glowing on the screen. She stood up and walked towards the computer. "Maybe I’ll just look for Jessica’s e-mail address and find out what is going on between her and JC," she thought, looking back at Justin who had a vacant look on his face. Sitting down at the computer, she turned it on and went directly to her e-mail. "You’ve got mail!," it chanted to her as she sighed, wondering who would harass her next. Her eyes opened wide as she read the subject line and the name of the person it was from. What kind of sick joke was it? Why was Britney writing to her? She ran her hands through her hair. "You better watch your back girl. Stealing my Juju from me is not even close to being cool! You’ll be sorry!" Freight swept over her face as she read the message. She thought about telling Justin about it, but it wouldn’t do any good. It would make him even more miserable. She quickly got offline and called JC; he always seemed to be good at listening.

"Hello?," a voice chirped out over the phone. "Hey Lance, can I talk to JC?," she said back. Twirling the phone cord around her finger as she waited for JC to come to the phone, she sat there, hoping he would understand where she was coming from. "What’s up? Did you find Jessica?," he asked, sounding excited. "I wish I could have, that’s what I was going to do, but I never got around to it. I got an e-mail," her voice trailed off. "From Britney." JC was silent for a moment, you could tell he was worried. "Have you told Justin?," he asked in a concerned tone. Before Shannon could answer, he piped in again, "Don’t go anywhere, we’ll be over as soon as possible!"
