Shell Scripting is usually synonymous with a Linux/Unix environment, but the term can apply to Windows machines as well, and once you're up to speed with the pieces involved and the techniques, the rest is left to your imagination. Hard Drive Benchmark Comparison Database
A hard drive is not a hard drive when it comes to performance. The general drive specs can actually mean very little on face value. Storage Review maintains a database of performance benchmarks that they've gathered on a number of available disks on the market. The general performance leader is understandably Seagate's 15,000rpm Cheetah Ultra160 drive, but several of the next models in some of their categories are a little jaw-dropping. Which benchmark you take into consideration when making a purchase decision should be the one that is most applicable to the intended use. The results vary widely among different tests.
