My favorite assignment in English Composition this semester was the Compare and Contrast assignment. Every writer has a wonderful opportunity to open up new worlds for their readers. Many times a reader will not have had the opportunity to observe what the writer is describing. Perhaps they have never visited the location in the story or article and sometimes the characters and location are fictitious.
Describing the two advertisements for different states was fun. Each ad was designed to entice the reader to spend their vacation dollars to visit their state. I became the eyes for anyone who read my essay but was unable to view these advertisements. Comparing and contrasting gave my reader a more detailed description of the ads. The advertisements were well done and I dreamed of taking my wife to these destinations for a well-earned break.
The written word has always been a valued part of my life. Living in a world void of books would be dismal. Books have always surrounded me for as long as I can remember. They say when I was born that I began to look around and observe my new world. Little did I know of the adventures that awaited me through books. My parents and other relatives began to give me books at an early age. Nighttime reading was part of my daily routine. As I grew older, Mom and I would take turns making up stories before bedtime. We often would take turns providing portions of the story, picking up the story line where the other one left off.
I dream of writing songs, business articles and possibly works of fiction someday. When I have the chance to write, I feel a sense of well being. Whether it is a song or thoughts for a story line that I am writing, I have the opportunity to lay aside the stress from meeting college deadlines or to shake off the physical exhaustion from my work.
