CvSU History

From its humble beginnings as Indang Intermediate School, first manned by the American “Thomasites” in 1906, it became Don Severino Agricultural College (DSAC) in 1964 with Mr. Vicente G. Hicaro as its first dean and office-in charge. Degree programs such as BS in Agriculture and Agricultural Education were offered initially, with Certificate in Technical Agriculture as a post-secondary course. It did not take long for DSAC to build its name.

In 1983, Dr. Ruperto S. Sangalang became dsac logothe College President. Agricultural Science curriculum, a special research-oriented curriculum for deserving high school students was implemented. Additional degree courses, both in the undergraduate and graduate levels were offered. Likewise, the College became the active partner of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Department of Energy (DOE) which eventually intensified the college’s agri-business projects ad augmented its physical facilities.

To address the changing needs of the clientele brought by the agro-modernization and industrialization in the CALABARZON area, and to serve as the stepping stone to its universityhood, the College instituted four schools in 1992, namely: School of Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Education. Shortly after that, the College was designated as the Regional College of Agriculture (RCA) for Southern Tagalog region.

As an RCA, DSAC was entrusted to promote academic excellence and leadership. Henceforth, Dr. Sangalang motivated his constituents to be active sponsors/hosts of short-term training courses and seminar-workshops for farmers, mentors, entrepreneurs and government personnel. Thus, paving the way to an Open University System in January 1997.

Cavite State University is a milestone for the people of Indang and province of Cavite as a whole. Dr. Sangalang and his co-administrators are faced with the challenge of continuing and instituting innovations to the existing programs and projects of the University. Recently, the Administrative Council led by Dr. Sangalang adopted BI2FOR2CE as CvSU strategies.
