not too old to do a birthday jig

So thanks to all who came out to the Irish Emigrant last night and helped me do a birthday jig. I thought I did rather well, considering I had hopped off the Victoria Clipper only hours before! Had a lovely weekend.

On Friday, I tried to get a lot of schoolwork done and did get a fair amount done at Aurafice after work. But I also noticed that I had exactly $15 in my wallet, exactly enough for 3 happy hour martinis at Chapel...so my two companions and I quickly set forth for an evening of drunkenness and reverlry. Ok, drunkenness, anyway.

*flash forward to 7 am Saturday* I got up, dropped off my friend, and stumbled onto the Victoria Clipper. Met my parents and sister in Victoria. Had lunch at this awesome tapas bar there. Went back to the hotel for my graduation present from the folks, an awesome spa treatment . Went out for dinner and passed out that evening in relaxed bliss.

Sunday we visited Victoria's Chinatown and I bought all sorts of little goodies--chopsticks, porcelain spoons, extra-extra-hot red pepper jelly and a toy for my kitties.

just the usual birthday, end-of-quarter stress
So tomorrow's my birthday, and while I'm having my annual "I'm getting older and I haven't really DONE anything with my life" freak-out, it's also the end of the quarter, which means, paper, projects and more papers.

Fortunately/unfortunately, my folks are treating me to a trip to Victoria for the weekend as a graduation/birthday present. It's a really nice thought, but badly timed for so many reasons.

*sigh*

No more stress! (at least for this week)
So the peer teaching thing went really well. Much better than last time. And my advisor bailed and didn't observe my teaching today. I'm heading off to choir rehearsal and then I'm free of obligations for the day.

However I'm still moody as all hell. I'm sure the change in the weather and resulting chemical SAD fun is helping in that....

I hate being such a wreck
Ok, so for a person as normally emotional as I am, I know I should be used to it, but I am hating being such a wreck right now. I have my second peer-teaching session in about an hour which is a third of my grade....so I'm a bundle of nerves....also my friend Lenore passed away last weekend, due to MS-related complications, so I'm all sad and contemplating my own mortality....tomorrow my advisor is observing me teaching my ESL class at Seattle Central.

running away from the world this weekend is sounding ever so tempting.

*giddy giddy bouncy bouncy* I HAVE A TEACHING INTERVIEW!!!!
Normally, I don't answer my cell phone while I'm at work. But a got a call from a number I didn't recognize and just had to pick it up. It turned out to be the academic director at ELS here in Seattle requesting that I come in to interview for a teaching position there!!!! And I was resigned to having to do a year corporate slavery or another year of AmeriCorps this year.....

Cute, but kinda evil
Apparently, that's me! Thanks for the confirmation, Hardrock!

Speaking of cute, but kinda evil, this is too:

Had a wonderful weekend. Volunteered at Tolcon on Saturday. Costumes were really well-done this year, panels were interesting, people were fun. I even did a couple of hours of Elvish Line Dancing. Sunday I worked out, did some lesson planning, recorded some music with Mars and went to the Compline Service at St. Mark's here in Seattle. I really should do that more often.

from Umberto Eco's Baudolino
"Yes, the vision was an illusion, but what I now felt inside was not; it was true desire. When you feel it, it's not an illusion. It's real."

"But it was the desire of an illusion."

"By then I wanted never to lose that desire. It was worth devoting my life to it."
