the naked chef!!!
i realize i haven't updated this in forever...

so..i found out there's a healthy cooking decal next semester...at first i was just really angry-ish but then i got over it & messaged the girl that was a part of it...apparently i can be a TA...mayhaps i will

let's see...filming is sup'd to start today...but i have no idea where chris is...so i'm not sure

friday we stood in line to see jamie oliver!

he's so adorable!!

i was lucky enough to get a picture..i think soon after us they started no letting people take pictures because it was taking too long.

the band made up of chefs:)

then we went in search of le colonial apparently some amazing place w/ french/vietnamese food...it was in some tiny alleyway...from the person in front of us in line it was "offa taylor" & the cashier for sur la table said it was "above california st" basically...we never found it...then we attempted to go to zuni cafe but it was super duper crowded & we ended up going to where we were gonna go all along...chow...
chris had porkchops with polenta & i had sole sandwich w/ potato bacon ale soup....

i felt bad cuz i ended up eating a lot of chris' :P but the soup was a bit too salty...the fish was good but there was more bread on the sandwich than anything but it was interesting..i think they used raw napa cabbage instead of lettuce...ooh & we shared a grilled prawn salad w/ arugula...it was delish...it had beets & this creamy cheese..not sure what kind...
but the dessert was the best part...ginger cake w/ pumpkin ice cream...mmm & whipped cream...

then! we went to this uppity safeway & i found my all time fave dreamery flavor that is so hard to find these days "raspberry brownie a la mode" it's basically vanilla ice cream w/ raspberry swirls & bits of chewy brownie...delish!!

anyways..that's all for now...haven't really been doing anything gourmety

starring chris & connie
so i found out the other day that #4 & 6 of my life's to do list could be conquered in one video submission to food network by nov. 30....

my excitement is in reality is about the burst but i've kept it under control...

chris & i have so many ideas....

so many things to do!

ahhh...

but...we shall

& it'll be perfect....

the only thing i'm worried about is that we'll make it to the finalists but then not the real thing because we don't have the "tv look" or any look for that matter besides asian...

the winner gets six episodes that will air as a special series in the summer...

for fear of you all stealing our ideas i will not disclose anything more:) muhahahahhahaha

things i forgot about...
last time...i left out a few things...

fuddruckers...i had the ostrich burger...it was ok...to tell you the truth i couldn't tell the difference...
though i never realized fuddruckers had hot cheese:P

what's it..

oh yea & for chanda's bday chris & i had made her apple tarts instead of the usual cakeish things...

they turns out so pretty but i realized i never took a pic of the final result..i took a pic w/ pinched butter on it:P

let's see...& this tuesday we ate at tandor kitchen to research for the chicken tikka masala we were gonna make wednesday...then wednesday we ate at vics for lunchish & then made chicken tikka masala at night...it was yummers but the prob was we over reduced the sauce so there was a bunch of chicken & no curry haha...frozen naan is pretty yummy...& i love chaat:P

& yesterday chris & i went to the giants game at sbc park because his sister and her high school women's ensemble were performing the national anthem but as it turned out it was also hot commodity seats because barry bond's homerun count was at 699 & he made his 700th..even though i don't watch baseball it was exciting...

we walked a long ways to try to get special food...it was rather disappointing...chris got a tri tip sandwich & i got a jerk chicken bowl thing...there wasn't too much flavor...it reminded me of baja fresh's bare burrito & i'd prefer the bare burrito...

let's see...tonight i go shopping for tableware...i decided i'm gonna borrow her utensils because i don't need a new set of four..& they're sorta expensive...for like a nicer looking set...i saw like $20-$30 ones...those were the cheapest...hmm...so yea...oh yea i'm gonna post a pic of her gift certificate..this posting pic thing is exciting to me:P cuz it's a more newly added feature...

cook chicken a jerkin'
this is gonna be a fast update...cuz i've sorta ignored this blog for a while...

let's see...
chris finally tried tung kee's fried rice (cuz that was the only place i could think of that had unique fried rice & so he got curious)

we went to fellini on university...i was so curious about it..but it turned out to be a little bit above average but not amazing...if i didn't have coupons i probably wouldn't go...i had a clam bake like dish w/ clam, mussels, calamari & chicken apple sausage served w/ bread & chris had a salmon over linguini dish...& then we had bread pudding w/ chocolate chips...let's say it was yummy but it's nothing something i'd crave...

where else have we gone...oh yea

i finally went to everett & jones for ribs...it was delish...for our side dishes we got sweet potato & collared greens (i've always been curious!) & i think baked beans...i've realized though...i'm not an enormous rib lover as i thought i was though...although i ate a lot that night & we still had two take out clam boxes worth left....i realized i'd probably never really do that again...the thought of super fatty things scares me sometimes...i was definitely full though...& they should get wet naps:P

what else...i discovered the yumminess of trader joe's soy crisps & chocolate covered pb pretzels...& sad that they didnt' have middle east feast...

ooh i also found out that i enjoy thai garlic chicken:) & i finally tried chris' fave at gyspy's godfather's favorite...it was pretty darn yummy but the thought of the pancetta scared me...& it was quite heavy...

hmm...
cooking wise...
we've been cooking every wednesday...

the first week we did uppity mac & cheese w/ cauliflower & brocolli...chris missed his meat but it's ok it was yummy & made up for it..we used trader joe's basil pasta which ended up making it pesto-y but w/out the oiliness of pesto which i liked cuz i think that's the only thing that makes me stray from it...hmm we used swiss & sharp cheddar...trader joe cheeses aren't as salty as most so it ended up being a bit blander than we'd though....

first we made a rue...then added milk & then cheeses...removed from heat....stirred in pasta...arranged in baking dish...topped w/ bread crumbs & baked...

it wasn't that exciting i guess but i think we were half expecting to do one w/ white truffle oil...but then we never did...but i guess the most exciting part was that we cooked the veggies in the microwave...HAHAHAH....but seriously it comes out better than we'd thought...better than steaming cuz steaming discolors them sometimes...it was like blanching them...super exciting...

then...last week...we made jerk chicken because chris' mom grew scotch bonnets (the chile pepper) in her garden...it had to marinate in the fridge (like this blog!:)) for 24 hours...then we made the jamacian bbq sauce...it was super duper yummers...it reminded me of sorta beef bowl's teriyaki sauce or hua hin's ginger lime chili sauce that comes with the chicken kabobs...in other words..it was also more asiany than i'd thought it'd be...lots of scallions & ginger & what not...i'll definitely be making the sauce again...dunno about the chicken..it couldn't been just plain chicken w/out the marinading & it still would've been yummers with the sauce...we had brocolli again because we got a kick out of the microwaving haha...& had rice too...we didn't want to do plantains..they're a pain in the butt...& note to self: wear gloves when working w/ scotch bonnets...gaaaah...but no more complaining about it...

we've been planning to make macaroons for forever but we've been lazy...oh yea cuz we had them at crepevine & they were to die for..soo good but sooo expensive!...but they're pretty big i guess...sorta like mini hedgehogs...

i think we're making chicken tikki masala this week...

ooh yea...last last friday...we went to improv & we got there early to go to this place called la taqueria supposedly it's really good..it was pretty crowded for a taqueria cuz there were tons on that one street...i got a chicken burrito & chris got a carnitas burrito...it was better probably than any burrito i've had..granted that's like la burrita & chevy's & maybe taco bell...but it was cool cuz you could actually taste each ingredient in the burrito cuz it was so fresh..it wasn't just a big mush of stuff inside..lots of meat & no rice fillers...after improv we went to michell's & stood in line for what seemed forever for ice cream...they're sup'd to be known for their special tropical fruits flavors..(aka more asiany haha) it took forever to decide...it was sad..we were almost nervous about it...there were soo many flavors...it's like gelataria naia...you're so overwhelmed...so i finally decided to try avacado (which was better than i'd thought) & mexican chocolate...chris tried kalua creme & got butterscotch marble(we both forget the name but that's about right) & chocolate chip in a sugar cone...i ended up getting pear & baby coconut in sugar cone w/ chocolate over...yes i went the distance:P i justified it in my head cuz i was wearing my funky door yoga shorts haha...i felt so sick after..haha...

wow that sounds like sooo mcuh food but granted this was over like a month's time...hmm maybe more...no maybe about a month...

& this was sooo not a fast update hahha....

ooh yea..so chanda finally decided sorta on her birthday dinner..when i was pressuring her she said she felt like she was chooing the last dinner she'd ever had...:P i assured her she'd live after the meal..or i hope so...:T...she wants something in french style...a fruity creme brulee....some appetizer w/ crab....& the entree being salmon or chicken...i'll probablly end up throwing in a soup & salad too..i'm soo gonna go all out...& i think it might be sorta expensive but oh well...i think i'll be getting tablecloth or make my own w/ cloth napkins...i'll be getting a new set of plates that she can keep afterwards..i'm thinking candles...flowers...& we might even make out own bread...i'm leaning towards a dark green & white theme cuz that think that will look classy & my tea light candle holders are blue & green...hmm...& i'm so excited about designing the menu you have no idea haha...chris says he'll contribute wine:)...it'll be soo nice...don't you all wish you were chanda...haha...or at least the one friend she gets to invite..:D
