extra berries
if you've got a lot of berries that you don't know what to do with...(since strawberries are starting to get cheap yay for summer....though not down under haha jeremy sorry!)

drizzle some balsamic vinegar over them (cut up strawberries & other berries whole)...just to coat (YES balsamic) & some sugar if you desire...

it's a nice little salad-ish thing...

& i know it sounds weird & i was skeptical at first but it really add a nice simple to achieve but complex flavor

or make that fruit salsa i made for the decal party...

just chop up strawberries, peeled & cored apples, kiwi, other berries or any other fruit you want for that matter....cut them to about the same size

stir in some preserves or jam of any flavor to make it thick & some brown or white or mixture of the two to sweeten it up to your liking

let it sit in the fridge for about 15 minutes before eating...

like i said i served this w/ cinnamon chips i baked up but just mixing 1:2 parts cinnamon & sugar & sprinkling them on pam sprayed tortilla or pita wedges & baking up!...

or you can just top plain yogurt w/ it...

whatever you want:)

i think both these things taste better as they sit too:) the flavors mingle!

i'm making di's orchard bread at the moment...we'll see how that turns out...

pizza, snickerdoodles, & crepinettes
ok so i'll start backwards...

the duck crepinettes...

i went to farmer's market this morning cuz i wanted to get mushrooms for my pizza & the mushrooms at safeway were expensive & not as nice...

i wanted to get something special for my pizzas so i went to fatted calf...i had heard so much about them but i was always scared to go up to them & buy something...1, it was expensive...2, it's one of the places that i can look at the chalkboard of products & genuinely not know what the hell they were....facing my lack of knowledge intimidated me...

when i went there one person was buying duck crepinettes...which i had never heard of...& another woman was asking what they were...so after listening i decided to get those too...whatever they were...i just heard the part where the casing is different..so i knew it was a sausage of some sort...

i was too cheap to put it on my pizza & now i'm looking up things to do w/ it & i just get so many sites saying it's freaking incredible but i have no idea what to do with it..bah

anyways..here's a really nice picture of it
(click on edit (next to file on your browser) & do find type crepinette)

berk farmer's market

anyways...i'm asking chowhounds...

snickerdoodles...made them cuz i was paying a visit to campus market today & i felt rude going there empty handed...

ate them w/ vanilla ice cream & chocolate syrup...yummy badness in a bowl...

ok...i was just looking at all the pics on that blog i linked above & that thing puts this crap blog to shame...it's all those pictures..i wish i was that talented at photography...

me to my cousin: omg acme's on there too all the loves of my life!

ANYWAYS

pizza...i made the dough when i woke up this morning...i was so nervous that the dough wouldn't rise..but it did well:) i was proud

this is half of the dough from the second rising:

i made marinara sauce...

put in green bell peppers & onions & basil & italian parsley...gawd i love fresh herbs

i kinda forgot about the ground turkey (i was trying to make it lean) so i decided to saute that w/ italian seasoning w/ the mushrooms separately...

stirred it in afterwards....

topped the whole wheat crust w/ this super duper chunky sauce fresh basil leaves & the sun dried tomato & basil mozzarella & i got this

20 minutes at 425 degrees

yea yea i need to work on forming my pizza dough but whatever...it was delicious:)

i put the rest in the fridge..i hope that's ok...dunno we'll see...

the next day...

the dough looked really flat but it baked up just fine...same as yesterday...

here is the pic of the pizza i made for chanda & myself it's so big! & real looking haha

andrea: yea i crave weird things too

me: yea sometimes i want milk...gawd i sound like i'm a pregnant woman

andrea: yea my roommate asks me if i'm sure i'm not pregnant when i eat like a bunch of pickles

my celebrity chef match!
Who's Your Celebrity Chef Match?
Connie, your celebrity chef match is Emeril Lagasse

Bam! When it comes to whipping up something in the kitchen, you're rarely afraid to kick it up a notch. That's why your celebrity chef match is Emeril Lagasse, the king of notch-kicking. While some may be a little intimidated by cooking and recipes, you tend to have fun in the kitchen (and in life), throwing caution (and sometimes even recipes) to the wind. After all, it's only food.

To you, the most important thing is to have a good time, which is why you probably enjoy sharing your culinary enthusiasm with friends and family. When you do entertain, you have a knack for throwing a little heart into everything you prepare ? and there's no better ingredient in the world.

& when i typed that phoenix place's name w/ my awful spelling the only site that popped up was my own blog which is kinda funny...but i did find the real one...it's PHOENIX PASTIFICIO

article about it

random stuff
1. i had a flourless chocolate pecan cookie from pheonix pasficio crap i keep forgetting how to spell it...i will look it up & remember after i write this entry...it was yummy

2. i resisted buying fried artichokes & zuchinni at the earth day festivities

3. i craved an orange cuz of jon...even though i know he didn't mean eat an orange...but i bought like 5 anyway...& i want more...

4. my friend im'd me yesterday that i hadn't talked to in forever...apparently the last time we talked i was making pulled pork...so he asked how that went...it was kinda weird cuz that was over a year ago....but it was kinda funny

5. apparently i also got him hooked on zachary's spinach & mushroom pizza...cuz i reccommended it one time & he hasn't ordered anything else since...which is kinda funny too...i totally rock

6. i've been kinda boring w/ my cooking lately...well yea...since the food poisoning my poor kitchen hasn't been the same...i haven't experimented as much..& i guess i have a lot less time on my hands too....i also haven't been to the store w/ chanda in a while too...that's usually when i get more groceries...the only stuff i get now is from farmer's market...which can be pricey

7. i really kinda want to throw a party....but i know it would be pricey so i'm thinking..maybe it'll be a pizza & pasta party...i'll make the pasta & dough & sauces (probably one basic marinara/tomato, pesto, & creamy (either just alfredo or roasted garlic?)) & then people can bring cheeses & toppings (that way the cost spreads out a little bit & they can bring & share what they like) but at the same time...my apartment is too small....so useless...anyways..the little pizzas & pasta can be made to order..it'd be interactive & fun...i guess i should do a fondue one first though:P beh....no...cuz i have to get those darn gel things...boooooo

ok that's all...
i really want to make appetizers...but so time consuming! gah...& no reason to....boo

oh! one last thing...

8. Maggiano's on May 6th...cuz chris is coming back for his mother's weddings...so chris & his old roommate & floormates & one of the floormates' bf & of course moi haha...we're going to santana row's maggiano's...yum...i'm really excited...i'm particularly looking forward to the Crispy Zucchini Frittes.....oy those are freaking to die for...they're super thin & crispy & w/ lemon aioli how could you go wrong...mmmmmmmmmm....ok anyways...the portions are like 3 times the size that you'd imagine too...so worth it...i got the salmon oreganata last time & my left overs were a meal in itself...yea it's a chain but it's good so i don't care...i realized i don't know if i can even eat as much as i did when i first went cuz i haven't "binged" in a long time...we'll see...

Maggiano's Dinner Menu

oh yea & on a total random sidenote...i need to remind myself i still want to go to santana row's pizza antica which is also a mini chain but they're sup'd to have really good portabella fritters...& i want to see how they match up to rivoli....oh my beloved rivoli...gawd i would love some chicken cooked two ways w/ truffled polenta right now....or the crab souffle....& of course the fritters....

or chez panisse's souffle rothschild....i dream about that at night...ok not at night...during the day....

wow i'm freaking spoiled....go me

convo in the lounge
at one pt in our many mini conversations about various things (chincilla fur coats, shampoo, sex line queuing systems, ADD) came up the topic of cutco...

so gareth & jon had both sold them for a little bit...

gareth proceeded to say how great a product it was...& that his friends still tell him they love the knives

then i started talking about how for the price..there are better...eg, wusthof or henckels etc cuz i have both so i know...wusthof cuts things like butter

& he said well do you have to sharpen them?

i said...it's crap if they say you don't have to..every knife needs to be sharpened...cept ceramic ones which i also have...

gareth: WHAT ARE YOU? an iron chef?

jon & i looked at each other & just burst out laughing

iron chef
so in our convo about me dropping ieor & going on iron chef (even though the series is over)

i said i'd just sit there & cry & lose
& jon said i should just present one dish & scare them w/ my audacity
& i said i'd just plate the ingredient raw
& he said he could say in the stands that it smells so good even from there

Jon: I could tap into the sound system
"Fuku-san? What is that dish over there?"
"It's an eclectic blend of Chinese, French and Japanese cuisine, a first here in kitchen-stadium."
"And the theme ingredient? Oh yes, She uses it so lightly you can barely taste it. A bare hint of flavor."
"Ah, the main course is an ofrum wrap containing qasd peppers, with a light yugrit sauce."
"We have a llama's meat side dish, with urawr sauce and a sprig of parsley."
"And of course, the entire parsley dish, for the vegans."
"And duck roasted so perfectly it infused life into it's dull world ofseasonal migrations, that taints the very air that we breathe with sush a hearty aroma that it makes soldiers cry and babies bow their head in reverence. The sauce, so thin it floats on the breeze, so strong it burns the eyes like a vision of heaven."
"And an ordinary banana. Quite avant-garde."
"An ordinary banana, laced with LSD."
"Ah, but 5 dishes are nothing for this young chefmaster, she breaks all records and has 6 dishes!"
"As a young child, her great-grandmother traveled to Eden to pick grapes of heaven, made into a wine whose peak is timed sush that it begins right when the judge tastes it. This wine, over ice cream, made from the milk of 100 holy cows from Tibet, with vanilla beans picked by angels. This ice cream, slathered in the chocolate grown by Spanish monks. All this, on the LSD banana, makes a split so powerful the last time it was made the universe nearly collapsed on itself."

& on a sidenote...we decided truffles was like drugs (1 lb was like $2,200) so our new goal in life is to OD on truffles...

since simpsons is not loved by everyone i will put my joke here haha
me: i need to go find myself 100 holy cows
jon: guam?
me: i was thinking more bart simpson

cooking decal party/farmer's market
sooo...i pretty much followed my game plan...

came back from work & just started cooking...

i took some box lids form work to put my food on...i layered one w/ colored paper & the other i picked leaves for...it was so awkward...carrying a lidful of big leaves & this guy fumbling to open the door for me...it was definitely weird...i felt kinda stupid hahhaha...whatever the leaves were gonna be put to good use! washed them & lay them on the lid for my toasted baguette layered w/ roasted garlic, brie, sliced anjou pear, and candied walnut...the other lid was for strawberry, apple, kiwi salsa with baked cinnamon sugar chips...

i ended up going alone..which is fine...it was fun!

everyone loved the appetizers & the brie one was gone before everyone got there...& apparently people were addicted to the chips...i have to agree they were pretty darn good...the salsa was regular...but it's a cute idea...

i had some sort of mixed drink that tasted grapefruity...& a little bit of smirnoff ice...

i knew i was bright red...stella: you match your jacket

so i stopped...i was totally cognizant of everything around me...i got a bit dizzy near the end but nothing out of the ordinary...

they played kings & a horrible sounding game called deep throat...it was cute...

i'm pretty sure if i were to drink a bit more...i'd just be louder...nothing crazy...

*shrug* it was fun...making appetizers is really fun just as i suspected...just time consuming i guess since it's all about the detail

.....

farmer's market today....
so i'm pretty sure i'm addicted to the farmer's market
especially since i work near there i realized how walkable it is...closer to me than any grocery store...so i value it...
i bought some cremini's & mixed greens & an almond macaroon & olive bread from pheonix pasificio...
i had already decided i'd eat lunch there
i ordered chicken satay..it was amazing...i've always liked satay but i could truly say this one was the best i've had...the peanut sauce was chunky & more flavorful & the chicken was huge chunks not the flattened ones...& it's organiz free range chicken..what could be better!...yummy & good for me..kinda haha

so i basically asked christine who was gonna be the decal facilitator next semester & she asked if i was interested so i said sure & she told me she was already gonna ask me anyways haha..aww i love christine she's hella funny...but yea cept the problem now is one of us has to have taken nutrisci 10 & we both haven't..sooo i don't know what will happen...if i can't be facilitator being a TA is fine too...this semester was fun...if i stay in berkeley at the engineering firm place maybe i'll just take it in the summer..it seems interesting anyways...
