A Guide to Safely Dyeing Your Dogs Hair

How to safely dye a dog's hair

This is just suggestions for people who are wanting advice on how to safely dye your dogs hair. I have a white Pekingese named Lily and both of these techniques work very well with her hair. Both are really inexpensive. The Kool-Aid technique is a fun alternative if you are wanting it to be more temporary. The Manic Panic technique is more of a semi-permanent way, although it does fade every time you shampoo. The Manic Panic is a vegetable based dye and I have had no problems out of it. On the Manic Panic website, they have a section devoted to pets that are dyed in their product. If you decide to use one of these techniques, e-mail me with pictures/results and I will be sure to post them! Please include your pets name, which technique and what color. thank you! Lily is 5 pounds and it takes about 13 packs, Conditioner (I have found that the mane and tail conditioner works very well), Mixing bowl, Disposable gloves, Plenty of towels First mix one teaspoon of conditioner for every pack of kool-aid. It will need to form a more liquid than paste texture, next saturate dog with mixture and avoid the eyes and nose. Next, let your dog soak in the mixture 20 to 30 minutes. Now you can rinse. Be sure to rinse very well. Your bathtub may turn the color of the kool-aid, but it will come off! Keep rinsing very well until the water has no more color in it. After rinsing, you can blow-dry. And you should have a colored dog! The results normally last through 2 shampoos. Next, towel dry, do not blow dry. Apply the Manic Panic to her hair making sure not to get it in her eyes or nose. Lily has never had a problem with wanting to lick it off. Let your dog soak in it for 15 to 30 minutes depending on the color you have selected. If you are using a light color like the Cotton Candy Pink, you may need to leave it on a little longer than 15 minutes. After that, you can rinse. Keep rinsing until the water is clear. Next you can blow-dry. Now you have a wonderfully colored dog!
