Billings Die Stock #179,758 Hartford Conn. Could this be from the Famous Billings Machine Tool Company? I don't know at this time..........OK Just found out that Charles E Billings was born in Wethersfield Vt in 1835 he worked in Connecticut and was quite an inventor. Before he died in 1920 he developed the modern board drop hammer for metal forging in the 1870s and designed a copper communicator bar essential to the operation of the electrical dynamos.
A great ALL WOOD model, even the cutting dies are carved from wood. And designed to be "quick change" via a device that releases the dies for replacement. I had thought it was a spring loaded button, but "on further review" there never was a spring involved, just a locking device that was an important part of the patent.
