Patent Model Washing Machine Plainfield Illinois Pat # 178,571
Frank Wenell of Plainfield Illinois was granted Patent # 178,571 on June 13, 1876 for his “improvement in boiler washing machines.” Of course the “agitator may be revolved backward and forward by the crank” says the claim. He certainly had a good idea, EXCEPT, someone had to turn the “crank”. All the model parts are here, and shown together and apart in the photos. A very simple but a well made model, complete with the original US Patent Office tags, and a copy of the claim and drawing. Patented in the Centennial of our country, and just a month before the July 4th celebration.
