Patent Model Device for Shearing Metal inventor Charles Robinson Patent # 148,495 Newton Iowa

Invented by Charles M Robinson of Newton Iowa. Patent granted March 10 1874

Taken from the fire of 1877 at the US Patent storage bldg.

This heavy well made model survived the fire in good condition. Mr Robinson felt that the "knives" and lever holders would allow round bolts or iron bars to be cut. He mentions, in his claim, " D is the yoke or upright, across and through which passes the bolt E, that holds the levers C C1, pivoted thereto, and is itself secured by a nut." Wow, that is only a portion of his written claim to the US Patent Office.

The witnesses for this specification sheet were Watson Ramsay and L B Westbrook.
