Quite an invention if you wanted to have steam to wash your clothes. An all metal Patent Model with the original Patent Office Tag included.Tag attached to model is from previous museum display. False bottom provides the "heating chamber" to supply steam.
The springs (coils says the inventor) keep an open channel through the cloths so that steam and hot water can shoot out and effectively aid in cleaning the clothes. The coils are attached to the side of the washer where nozzles are that allow hot water and steam to rise from the false bottom and squirt out through the clothes. Pretty good for an idea 130+ years old.
