Patent Model Extension Bed Lounge inventor Albert Benten San Francisco California 1871 patent # 118,677

This model would be like the convertable sofa, but 130 years ago. One of a few furniture items in our collection. We have 2 bed lounges. Of course each is different as these are patent models that are unique, and 1 of a kind! This bed lounge head area lowers and then the entire unit opens to be double width.

Albert Frederick Benten of San Francisco felt that he had the best idea about a lounge or sofa could open into a double bed, and the patent office granted him patent # 118,677 on September 5th 1871 for this idea.

Small brass hinges allow this sofa to open to the size of a double bed!

Some folding legs too.
