Pakistan vs. India: Who Would Win A Conventional War?
Topic: Military

Since their partition into separate countries, Pakistan and India have shared a very contentious history.  Fighting a number of wars in the 20th Century -- with the most recent being The Kargil War of 1999 -- the two longstanding enemies share what has been called the most dangerous border in the world.  Military enthusiasts have often discussed what a modern conventional war between them would look like.  Binkov's Battlefields creates war simulations, and this is one of the conflicts the channel has featured.  Click The Photo Below To Watch:

North Korea Unveils Stealth Ship To Answer Trump Threat
Topic: Military

photo: NK News

With an U.S. aircraft carrier battle group heading its way, North Korea has unveiled it's own naval threat:  Stealth!  The North Korean Nongo Class  is what's known as a Surface Effect Ship.  Besides having stealthy features, the "Surface Effect" means that it has an ability to essentially ride over waves rather than through them (similar to a hovercraft in some respects, but much faster).  The Nongo is capable of reaching 50kts.  It carries anti-aircraft guns, a main gun, and anti-ship missiles capable of hitting vessels 130km away.

North Korean Anti-Ship Missiles Include:
Kh-35 (Russian)
C-802 (Chinese)
KN-09 (North Korean)

Move Over America, China Enters Exclusive Stealth Club...And Is Bringing Friends!
Topic: Military

J-20 Black Eagle (photo credit: Daily Star)

Defense planners concerned with the Asian-Pacific Theater were sent scrambling last week as China announced the introduction of its J-20 stealth fighter.  Prior to that move, the only country in the world with stealth aircraft in active military service was the United States.  The U.S. had long held a monopoly on stealth, beginning with experimental stealth use on the SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance plane.  Although not a stealth jet, some stealth concepts were applied to the design.  True stealth combat aircraft first came into public view with the F-117 and B-2 during the 1980's and 90's.  Following the introduction of these bombers, stealth fighter jets came into being with the F-22 (2005) and F-35 (2015).  Enter the Chinese J-20!

It must be noted that the J-20 benefited from espionage.  Chinese hackers gained access to American stealth  technology from both the F-22 and F-35 programs, and this stolen tech was used in the J-20 design.   The jet is built for long range and carries multiple weapons.    It is expected that the US. Navy and its aircraft carrier force will have to deal with  its presence during any future conflict that may arise in the disputed South China Sea region.

With American stealth aircraft first seeing action during the 80's in Panama, American forces have held a monumental advantage in the airspace above conflicts for decades.  China just changed that calculus, while making itself   a player in future air combat.  In addition to the J-20, China also has the stealthy J-31 in development for EXPORT!   And it doesn't end there:  China is rumored to have a stealth bomber in development; and a number of other countries -- including Russia and Iran -- already have stealth programs underway.  As a result, U.S. pilots could soon be skirmishing with enemy stealth jets over multiple conflict zones.

Planet of the Apes Coming Soon To A Battlefield Near You -- For Real???
Topic: Military

With an eye towards creating an army of "Super Soldiers," Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin initiated a program to create ape-human hybrids.  Theoretically this would create soldiers with near-human intelligence -- enabling them to be controlled and directed -- with the additional benefits of ape strength and agility.  During the mid 1920's an early genetic scientist, Dr. Ilya Ivanov, was given a $10,000 grant to begin the process.  Ivanov traveled to Africa to obtain a number of suitable simians; and, after failing to find human females to participate in his experiments there, he returned to the Soviet Union where he obtained a volunteers.  His methodology involved impregnating these women with ape sperm.    Then,If all went to plan, the resulting births would be the beginnings of a force leading to Soviet Communist world domination.  When these experiments failed the program was shut down.

Fast forward to today, almost 100 years later!  With the level of today's scientific knowledge of genetic manipulation -- could human soldiers step onto a battlefield in the near future and come face to face with PLANET OF THE APES -- FOR REAL!  With spider-goats already being created for military purposes, how far behind can a "Monkey Man" be...

Egypt Becomes First Export Customer For Advanced Mig-35
Topic: Military

Egypt will become the first country in the world to field the advanced Mig-35 multirole fighter jet; expecting 2 to be delivered before the end of 2016. Egypt signed a deal with Russia in April 2015 for 50 Mig-35's worth over $2 billion.  The Mig-35 is a 4.5 generation fighter capable of mach 2.25, and has a combat radius of 1,000 km.  It also has 9 hardpoints with a carrying capacity of 7,000 kg worth of air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions.

Egypt, which already had the largest air force in Africa, also became the first export customer for the French 4.5 generation Rafale multirole fighter jet.  Egypt, which until recently had been a customer for American combat aircraft, is clearly diversifying it's sources for military hardware after a recent history of being hit by U.S. sanctions.

Nigeria To Buy JF-17 Fighter Jets
Topic: Military
nigeria jf-17

To aid in the battle against terrorists, and to modernize air defense capabilities, Nigeria is planning to upgrade its air force with the purchase of JF-17 fighters.  The Sino-Pakistani co-produced jet is capable of both air-to-air and ground attack missions with precision munitions.

While most nations aim to fly 4.5 generation or 5th generation fighters, the JF-17 provides a cheaper alternative for developing nations.  The JF-17 is a 3rd generation airframe housing 4th generation internal features.  The version that the Nigerian air force will be getting is the updated JF-17 block 2, costing Nigeria roughly $25 million per plane.  This version includes a refueling probe, a data link, improved avionics and electronic warfare capabilities,  and the KLJ-7v2 radar.

An even more upgraded JF-17 block 3 model is in the design stage, and scheduled to go into production around the 2018-19 timeframe.  The block 3 will have stealth features, an AESA radar, HMD with advanced wvr missile (possibly the South African/Brazilian A-Darter), a more powerful engine (either of Russian or Chinese design), and may include an internal IRST.
