Take your kids hunting with you!!

This poem inspired by hunters and their children.

MY FIRST KILL...

I just turned 10 and it was a cold day in that marsh.

Dad handed me a shotgun and looked at me kind of harsh.

I took it with honor knowing the time was right.

The sun was rising from such a dark night.

There he was, the one I claimed as mine.

I pulled the trigger, everything slowed down even time.

I watched as that beautiful green head hit the water in dismay.

The dog ran out as if he were retrieving prey.

My dad smiled and patted me on the shoulder.

It didn't seem to matter that he were older.

It was as if we were equal in ways never thought before.

All because his kid made his first score.

That duck hangs proudly now over the fireplace.

Until this day, I'll never forget the smile on my dads face.

The End

By: Stacy Petty

FACTS:

Be a responsible hunter, pick up spent shells. Everyday more and more of our wetlands are wasting away because of erosion. Please try to keep what we have left beautiful.

Support wildlife preservation societies and wetland preservations.

Proven fact if you take your children with you, we are able to keep the hunting tradition alive. Also, we teach them gun safety and hunter responsibilities. It also forms a bond which could never be broke between parents and their children.

THANK YOU!!
