Sept. 08, 2001 This past week has seen a vast growth in slit seeding, traditional lawn care and our ever expanding ornamental paving stone patios, walkways, driveways etc. Those of you who have had paving stones laid will find it necessary to sweep dry sand to cover some of the rain drainage. The new AB3 we've been using has been super! Those of you who have been recently slit-seeded, just remember, the first two-three weeks are the worse. The weed control used to treat nutgrass has a bad habit of turning fairly wide swatches of seemingly good grass yellow. This is a transitory effect and exactly the desired consequence. Please resist the temptation to mow it off. The more it is translocated into the weed the better. Continue your four-times plus watering a week. Make sure that a thorough soaking is achieved(30-45 minutes per sprinkler region). Germination should begin in SPOTS, don't worry though it'll spread quickly. Finally, and this cannot be overemphasised, your lawn mower must be set at 3 inches. Mowers are the single most destructive elemant your new lawn faces. Please don't forget to let the clippings fall. Till next time..... Thanks, Shawn Arbuckle Kansas City, MO 64151 816-587-3607
