If Only I Had Known

I see it around me,
and I pretend not to notice.
people dying,
and people crying.

I ask myself, What can I do?
Or what should I have done?
If only I had known
the power I held within me.

It's not like it's hidden.
The tragedy is public.
It's not like it goes unnoticed,
the fear is spreading throughout.

I fear for my life,
and the life of others
and for those
who do not realize they are in danger.

Why does it have to be this way?
Why not peace and harmony?
Why are we plagued with fear?
And why do we suffer so much pain?

Again, I ask myself, What could I have done?
and again, What should I have done?
If only I had known
the power I held within me.
