They say that candle gel is the
"latest revolution in candle making". Well, to those of us who consider
it an art form, this is a GREAT medium. Raw candle gel is crystal
clear and odorless, making the possibilities for creative use boundless.
Its limitations are only in that it MUST be containerized, any objects
in the burning/melting part of the candle must be flame resistant, and...
well... the artist's imagination!! What else holds us back?
The clarity of the gel gives the
inspiration for "liquid" themes: underwater scenes, coffee, wine, cordials,
or champagne, Coca-Cola, etc. But even the simple, colored and scented
gel container candles add a romantic glow, and can be made to match
any decor. Through the bubbles that naturally appear as the gel cools,
or through patterned or ribbed glass, the glow spreads throughout
the gel, creating a light show that no wax candle can even come close
to.
Personally, I have developed a short attention span (a side effect of
rearing children, I suspect), and soon lost interest in fluid creations.
I soon branched out to attempt dual colored and eventually even tricolor
gel candles that required multiple pours and careful temperature control.
Then I set my sights on glassware, pouring various colors of gel into interesting,
beautiful, or unique containers. I have also embedded various items, such
as glass fish, polished stones, glitter, and even little glass cows in the
gel.
I use Penreco Versagel MP and HP in my Specialty
Gel Candles, and scent them with only the highest quality fragrances.
