Modern jive is a dance introduced to France by the American GI's at the end of the second world war. Today it has developed to be a trendy sexy partner dance which is similar to the dancing in the film 'Dirty Dancing'. The best thing is that it is still developing and each new generation of dancers introduces new moves. It is extremely easy to learn and beginners will soon be creating their own new moves that amaze people watching. Modern Jive can be danced to any music with a steady beat. Music played at the venues varies from the 60's up to todays chart hits so it appeals to people of all ages.

Modern Jive is a mixture of a number of different dances including Jive, Salsa, Rock n Roll, Latin and Dirty Dancing. And because there is no footwork to learn it means the moves are easier to learn than some other forms of dancing. Once you have mastered some of the beginner moves you will naturally be developing your own style without even realising it. There is no right or wrong way to dance Modern Jive which means when you dance with another person their style will be different to your last partners which makes the dance even more fun, but the core moves will still be the same. To give you an idea of what Jive Dancing is all about there is a small video clip on the Ceroc Australia website.

If you are considering learning to dance then have a look at 'My diary' page which will show you how I started dancing at a Ceroc venue and my experiences both good and bad which you will probably go through yourself. At the time of writing this site I have been dancing for 3 months and can say that before learning Modern Jive I would never have had the confidence I now have on a dance floor. It is probably one of the best things I have ever done and my only regret is that I waited so long to do it. I started by going to one venue but now I find that I am always thinking about the dance and how I can improve. I am now going out 3 or more evenings a week to different venues in and around London. Thats how addictive it gets and it's always a fun night out. I'm even thinking that when I become a good intermediate dancer that I would like to become a taxi dancer and then prehaps a teacher, so I can help people who were like me become confident dancers.

As a beginner what I needed most was after the class to go and read about the moves I had just been taught, and to refresh my memory on moves I had been taught awhile ago. I found only one Jive website that had some similar moves on it but it did not contain that many, so I decided to write this website. As I learn new moves I will add them to this site so that you my fellow Jivers can use them to improve your dancing as well.

and it really is!
