Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Class specialization guide

This guide is designed for those who want to make a confident choice when choosing their next character class specialization. For those who have it clear in their mind what role they want to play in Morrowind, Combat, Stealth or Magic, their choice is obvious. However, for those who aren’t sure what Morrowind offers, this guide will be of most help.

Foreword

The world of Morrowind can be a very different and exciting place from the world we know today. Yet there are seemingly endless indifferences – realistic attributes that exist in both worlds. Once of these indifferences are the three different classes. As in the real world, certain attributes and skills one might have are more suited to certain classes, specializations. This is the same in Morrowind, similarly, this guide will point out what specialization to choose for certain roles, what attributes are encompassed in that specialization and what skills are affected by that specialization.

Section One: Basing your Choices

This guide was created with IEKA in mind, a Morrowind character profile creator and was, until now, to be kept exclusively for IEKA. But by popular demand, it has now been released outside of the Hawk Network so that others may benefit.

It is still recommended however, that you download and install IEKA, it will help you plan your next Morrowind character in order to make informed decisions via an easy to use wizard style interface. You can download IEKA here: http://hawk.warp0.com.

Each class explained

There are three different classes in Morrowind, all of which end up encompassing all skills and all attributes (except for luck).

Combat

Obviously the combat class is the class related to combat, however it is combat with weapons and medium to heavy armour, some people play as combat mages, for them, they should examine the Magic specialization.

…combat governs

  • Strength
  • Endurance
  • - Agility
  • - Speed

    ...combat skills include

  • Athletics
  • Armourer
  • Axe
  • Block
  • Blunt Weapon
  • Heavy Armour
  • Long Blade
  • Medium Armour
  • Spear

    Stealth

Stealth is the class for those who wish to play the role of thieves, it encompasses light combat arts as well as the obvious thievery arts (sneak ect.)

    …stealth governs

  • Intelligence
  • Agility
  • Speed
  • Strength

    …stealth skills include

  • Acrobatics
  • Hand to Hand
  • Light Armour
  • Marksman
  • Mercantile
  • Security
  • Short Blade
  • Sneak
  • Speechcraft

    Magic

Magic is the art of all things magic related. The focussed mage can still fight, but is more suited to fighting with magical energies or summoning violent creatures.

    …magic governs

  • Willpower
  • Intelligence
  • Personality
  • Speed

    …magic skills include

  • Alchemy
  • Alteration
  • Conjuration
  • Destruction
  • Enchant
  • Illusion
  • Mysticism
  • Restoration
  • Unarmoured

What to base your choices on

There are several factors one must consider when attempting to choose their class specialization:

  • What you want to do
  • How you want to do it
  • What strengths (and weaknesses) do you want to have.

It is particularly obvious that any skill or attribute that is not in a chosen specialization will have a slight disadvantage over those that are. These in total, will form parts your strengths and weaknesses in the whole of Morrowind, of course combined with your Race and Birthsign.

    Section Two: Other Resources

Morrowind has a large following of fans, including myself. There are literally hundreds of fan sites out their, some good some not so good. Log onto our website and navigate over to Weblinks for a list of fansites all grouped in categories. Again, I recommend using IEKA to help you plan your Morrowind characters. It will walk you through the process step by step providing tips and detailed information about attributes, skills and the like allowing you to make informed decisions about your character, and allowing you to save, copy or print out your choices for reference and input into the game.

If you’re using IEKA, throughout the program you may have noticed “Weblinks” buttons in the left hand pane. Clicking these will open your default browser and navigate to a website or web related resources associated to the step you are currently at. The very last step “Get More Help” has a list of AAA websites for you to visit and even add to your Internet Explorer favourites all related to Morrowind.

    Epilogue: Thoughts and Comments

I hope you have found this guide easy to read and informative. Morrowind is a great game and allows such a vast amount of freedom and choice that it is a shame to waste your best gaming experience with a boring and useless character. I hope you come away from this guide with more knowledge about combat characters and that your character turns out to make your gaming experience as best as possible.
