BIO

Charlie Harding is one of approximately twelve parrot behaviorists in North America. He has conducted over fifteen years of independent study and research, visiting the places parrots live around the world and observing them in their natural environments. He has conducted field studies of parrots in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Venezuela, various other South American countries, the Caribbean Islands, and has observed the outdoor bird markets of Europe. Since 1983, Charlie has been raising, retailing, and weaning psitticines (parrots). During his time working with parrots, he began to see patterns with the parrots that were biting, neurotic, screaming excessively, and feather picking. He became frustrated when he realized he couldn't talk to everyone for at least an hour and a half about why their particular bird was 'out of control'. People thought they could have a three-minute consultation for their parrot's complex psychological issues. Charlie Harding was sure he could find a better way.

Charlie did indeed find the answer to his frustrations. He developed two things; he became an author and published "Secrets Revealed", a publication in book, CD, and tape form, addressing the most common mistakes made with parrots and how these mistakes ultimately affect the parrot's behavior and he also developed a one of a kind "Behavior Modification Kit" not only addressing the complex issues of parrot behavior, but also providing some of the things the owner would probably need to get started on modifying their parrot's behavior right away. This "Behavior Modification Kit" was developed in April of 1999 and the behavior tape, "Secrets Reveled" was  published in June of 2001. The "Secrets Revealed" tape is now sold through veterinarians, pet shops, and major pet retail distributors all over the country. Both the Behavior Modification Kit and Behavior Tape have been working beautifully ever since! Only two people on record, out of the hundreds of kits and thousands tapes sold, have returned anything and/or asked for their money back, because their Tape or Kit did not work to modify their parrot's behavior.

Charlie has also created a variety of other high quality products for parrots, such as, the "Pipe Bom Puzzle Toy", the "Puzzle Toy Snack Attack", "Parrot Popcorn", and even his own brand of high quality protein cooking mix, just to name a few. In 1999, he founded "Parrot Behavior Consulting", a foundation established to provide seminars, lectures, education, advocacy, and outreach programs to educate the public on parrot abuse and behavior.

Before Charlie bought his pet store, "The Seattle Parrot Market", he used to hire someone to operate his street vending carts, that he owned in downtown Seattle, so he could 'hang out' at the parrot shop and volunteer for them. He had developed a strong desire to learn more about parrots.

He devoured the books that The Seattle Parrot market sold, reading thick books overnight, and soon, he had read every single book about parrots in the entire shop. The owner of The Seattle Parrot Market, impressed with Charlie's enthusiasm, soon made Charlie part time manager of the shop.

When Charlie was presented with the opportunity to buy the store, he said yes in heartbeat. He bought "The Seattle Parrot Market" October of 1991. The store is located in the historic Pike Place Market, in downtown, Seattle WA.

Charlie has had a keen interest in parrots for most of his life. He has become a Doctor DooLittle for parrots; when he talks, the parrots talk back, and he listens to them and understands their language. He still has the first parrot he ever owned, a bird he received as a birthday present in 1983, a Mexican Red Headed Amazon, named Benny who hatched in 1979.

Parrots have become a part of his life and passion, and he has dedicated himself to helping other people understand the disposition, personality, character and nature of their own pet birds, especially as it relates to behavioral problems such as biting, screaming, aggression, and feather picking. You will not find anyone on earth who is as enthusiastic, or as dedicated about parrots as Charlie Harding.
