The Powell Great Room Remodel

Photographs below are of the great room project before we begun our work.
The homeowner had attempted to make minor repairs themselves.
This home could have been patched up enough to live in by the homeowner,
but this homeowner demanded and needed a more professional approach to their remodeling project to achieve the look and feel they were after.
They needed Cogsdell Home Improvement

This room has a lot of potential, as seen by the homeowner prior to calling us.
With our help they are going to transform this room into a place
that they can be proud of and entertain guests or relax in the near future.

As the photos show this 19' x 24' room is of a very nice size and has
plenty of windows to let the the light in and mountain air flow through.

It has 10' 6" ceilings, but the dark and dreary false beams (of a time past)
takes away from this quality and makes the room feel much smaller.
We will be removing them and make all needed repairs to the ceiling, then we will apply a prime coat of paint to drywall, a sand finish and two finish coats of paint. That should brighten the ceiling and give it a new fresh look.
We will also be adding three reccessed lights, one over the fireplace and two on the opposite side of the room near the corners.

The room also has a very small crown molding, approx. 2 1/4" wide. This molding is just not wide enough for these high ceilings, we will be changing this to a wider more defining 5 1/2" crown molding

The marble fireplace is just simply awesome.
A bit of a scrubbing will bring out it's true beauty.

The fireplace is said to have leaked from the time the home was built in 1941.
The Powells even had the roof replaced along with the fireplace flashing, and it still leaked. Well, they called us and that was our first job on this home. We were successful in not only stopping the leak but finding the problem and eliminating the re-occurance of a roof leak @ the chimney in the future.

We will be moving the wall on the righthand side of the fireplace into the room about 12" to make room in the Master Bedroom (which is behind this wall)to enlarge the small Master bath and build built-in wardrobe cabinets on the other side.

We will be making all needed drywall repairs and doing a complete paint job on this room
(walls, ceiling,windows and trimwork).
Also we will be installing 2 ceiling fans,
changing all electrical receptacles and light switches to a more modern type.
